Eifel Multitool
on: August 14, 2013, 06:07:41 AM
I own an Eifel Multitool.  The reason I know it is a multitool is because it is written on the tool.  These neat little collectors items were probably given away to thousands via ads in magazines like Popular Mechanics during the 20's, 30's and 40's.  They also were evidently sold for the outlandish sum of 15 cents because that too is written on the tool.  With four or more screwdriver sections and the all important bottle opener and a center section evidently designed to help pull nails this little multitool is an early predecessor of many of the one piece pocket tools we see today. The whole purpose of this little multitool is really designed to introduce you to the American Plierench Company and it's wonderful Plierench.  I consider this a must have tool for the one piece tool collector.

That is indeed pretty cool!

I have just done an eBay search and it seems the plier tool is reasonably common, but this one piece version doesn't seem to exist- at least not at the moment.

I'll have to keep my eyes open!

I'll give you 16 cents for that. And they are Eurocents, so you gain even more. Deal?

I'm sure we can come to some agreement. If you pay for the flight over I will bring it to you. :D

We are close to a deal. Where would you like to meet, Myconos, Santorini, Crete, Rhodes or Corfu?

I'm all about the food.  Which ever has the best restaurants.   I do require first class accomodations and a round trip ticket.  Past that I'm not picky.

Your dad's tool is the E-F Angle Screwdriver.  It came with the World Flight versions of the tool from the mid 1920's.It has a key ring hole. Advertisements show you can use the tool to open bottles with caps.

Yours are Eifel Multitools.  They came with the 1932+ version of the tool. It has a nail puller in the center.

There is a third version.  It was manufactured by the Plierench Co. Circa late '40's early '50's.  It looks like the Eifel multitool, but it has a key ring hole. I've only seen one and it came from OZ.  I have it in my collection.

Three years since we discussed Eifel multi tools.  I thought it was time for a revisit.

The photo below shows the evolution of the Eifel multi tool from the E-F Angle Screwdriver in the 1920's (top) to the Eifel Multitool of the 30's and 40's (middle)  to the Plierench Corp version in the 50's (bottom).

BTW, I have a pickall on the way.  I had to buy a huge lot to get that one little tool, but it helps round out my collection.

I did.  Missing one of the claws, but will still pinch a blister on you finger.

Will try to get a pic this weekend.
