Bitdriver Scales
on: September 06, 2025, 05:28:50 PM
My latest attempt at creating a useful bit driver mod for the 91mm Victorinox. I call them Dragon Scales. Let me know what you think.

I also have a video going over it in more detail. Just search for Qool Tools or Victorinox Dragon Scale on Youtube.

What tools do you keep in the SAK once you don't need SDs anymore ?
Oh, and great job for the scales !
It does seem you have to take them off to change the bands holding your bits, though…

I like having both scissors and the metal file. And you're right you would probably have to take them off to change the bands if they snapped. I considered magnets for the bit retention, but decided the o-rings were actually probably more secure. They also allow you to fit other things like 1/4in bits, t-shanks, or scale tools for example. Whatever you decide to add also doesn't have to be magnetic.

Amazing, useful and creative mod - I love it !!

How are the bits held in place in the slots - Is it just friction?
Assume the scales are glued onto the knife frame?   ???
I guess it would have to be pretty strong glue to handle the torque.

Yes, the bits are held in by friction with the o-rings/pocket and the scales need to be epoxied to the frame.
