Looking good mate.  What was the range you were shooting at?  What's the scope you are using?  Details John, I need details. :D

TBH,I'm not over pleased...kept sending fliers ,but I've sussed out why! The gun was slightly lose in the stock! A little meeting with Mr Spirit has cured that :D

Shots were taken at 25yrds,from the bench. Scope is a temporary fit,a 4x40 BSA mildot on low level Leapers mounts.

We'll give her another pop tomorrow night, see if I can close the groups up a bit further

You definitely don't want a lose stock. ;)

For those at the meet-up; this is essentially the same rifle I had along, just with a wooden stock, rather than my synthetic one.  I think most would agree that it's a flipping good gun. :)

Please don't get me hooked on guns too.

I got a Mk1 BSA stutzen, always wanted another BSA Tracker ( dad forced me to sell mine when I was younger) and I never owned, but always wanted the venerable HW77k.

I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

AFAIK the Mk1's had the silencer overhanging the underlever catch. Nice gun  :tu:
The Superstar is one of the nicest BSA's though.

Lol , yeah they do seem to be a little rare these days. Don't wanna hurt you no more, but I'm sure I only paid £60 quid for it - mind you that was 20 odd years ago. The stock was a mess so I took it straight to a local stock finisher here in Sheffield - Norwood trading estate, killamarsh. That cost a further £30/40  and she's remained ever since in her gun bag. Except for bro-in-law who borrowed it for plinking and basically used it like you'd use a cheap n nasty Chinese POS. So now its got the odd mark here and there.

I'll post pics - but I can't see it being done until next friday - go to work in the dark/ come home in the dark?? Frtiday I finish at 11am  :D. Pics then  :salute:

Anyway she's in the loft with her soulmate... Mk1 Barnett Commando (yep, 007 thingy)  :D

Uncle Kirk will explain

The general hunting licence covers fur and fowl. Generally rabbits, rats, certain corvids, certain pigeon and parakeets are deemed to be legal. To be found hunting game not covered by the general licence is a criminal offence. For pest control purposes, shooting is acceptable, within safety parameters AS LONG AS all other means or methods of pest control have been tried.

The BASC website fully covers all the assorted different hunting licences available here in the UK

Just to clarify a bit. The primary legislation covering hunting in the UK is the Wildlife and Countryside act 1981 (WCA1981).
By default it is illegal to kill any wild bird - apart from wildfowl and game species which have a specified open season.
By default it is legal to kill any wild mammal - apart from a few specifically listed ones.

Therefore no licence is needed (or exists) for killing rabbits or rats etc. In fact under the Pest Act 1954 landowners have a duty to prevent rabbits from becoming a nuisance to any neighbouring land. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/Eliz2/2-3/68/contents

Some bird species are identified as pest species and so can be shot under licence. Some such as comorants, which take fish from commercial fishing lakes etc, need a specific licence issued to a named individual with the number listed which can be killed.
Other such as the pigeons, corvids and parakeets etc are covered by a series of general licences (GLs) issued each year listing the species that can be killed and the conditions attached. (There is a GL to prevent spread of disease, a GL to cover crop damage etc and they can have different species listed). Those in section 2 (1) (a) are the native species and it has to be shown that they are causing damage and that non-lethal methods would be effective before it is legal to kill them. Those in 2 (1) (b) are non native species eg parakeets and Canada geese and non lethal methods do not have to be shown to be ineffective [ see explanatory note (o) [http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/Images/wml-gl04_tcm6-24149.pdf.

Other legislation specifies minimum calibres/energy/velocity etc for some species. (The 3 that come to mind are deer, badgers and seals). So it would be illegal to shoot any of these with an air weapon.
Obviously common sense should be applied and if you shot at an unsuitably large animal and only injured it - this would be an offence under animal welfare legislation.
BASC do provide a guideline to species suitable for air gun hunting. Game birds are not on the list but that does not make it illegal to shoot them as long as you have permission from the owner of the sporting rights - who often is not the tennant farmer who might give permision to shoot pests.

It should be noted that shooting game birds (usually on the ground) is not considered "sporting" and is very controversial and leads to heated debates on hunting forums. However, that does not make it illegal.

Hope this helps.  :tu:

Only ever tried two gas rams,a modded SuperStar(waste of a great gun) and a break barrel Theoben of some sort( very good ergonomics, shot like a smurf)

ASFIK the HW90 uses a Theoben ram,so personally,I'd skip it until the Germans do a ram of their own!

Given the Theoben and Crossman Nitro Venom I have shot and didn't particularly enjoy, plus the price of the HW90, I'll be giving it a miss myself.

I do have to admit I've not shot one myself though, and I've read good things about it's accuracy, so I don't doubt it suits some folks.

Yes they were. They also pioneered the gas ram system. The only thing I'd really criticise the one I'd fired on was how it actually performed as a gun! It's firing cycle felt like a cheap Turkish springer, not what you'd expect for something advertised as the all singing, all dancing wonder gun.

Like yourself I'd heard nothing but good things, but only in the air gun press, but they're reviews are about as reliable as the headlines of Hello magazine!

The smoothest spring guns I've fired have been the HW97,and the two Air Arms offerings, the TX200,and the ProSporter, and overall I rate the HW97 more highly.

I think the problem with gas rams lies in one of two places...either it's an immature technology( which someone like Weihrauch or Fienwerkbau can make work), or its a solution to a non existent problem!

I think, like you John, it's a solution to a non existent problem although it does differ from a Theoben rammer in that it's heavier and has a longer barrel. Should have a better trigger too  :)  I'm getting one in .177 on a long term loan, with option to buy at a great price, soon. I'm not sold on rammers at all so I'll keep you all posted.
