That's a gorgeous Stutzen Nick and it's in .177! Looks like a period scope too? Thanks for sharing  :D  Update to my own airgun ownership .. I now have a gorgeous HW97K .177 in place of my S400  :) My local shop gave me an absurdly good trade in on my S400 and I am at heart a springer fan anyway. I've had it apart and all is well just giving it a quick smooth and relube. It's nice to see that Weihrauch are once again using springs which are properly finished at both ends  :tu:

Thanks to you and everyone else for the nice compliments.

And congratulations on the HW97  :salute:

I would love to get a HW77k. Wanted one for the past 20yrs.

I'm really surprised you guys are still into springers!! Thought you'd have moved over to gas systems. I hear they are totally recoiless? Bro-in-law bought one after handing me my scratched and scuffed stutzen  back...... Was very touchy when I asked if I could have a go with his!!

Yeah, my thoughts too......F*** him!!
I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

Yup, PCP (pre-charged pneumatic) rifles are definitely a different breed, but not necessarily better.  Yes, they are indeed recoilless so much easier to keep on target, but they bring their own logistical issues to shooting.  The need of a good high pressure air supply for one thing.

Yep,Gareth's covered a lot of the bases there :tu:

Big difference is that while PCPs are very easy to shoot, they're also quite soulless compared to a Springer. PCPs shoot, springers live!

Just going off topic a little. Quite a few rifles now appear to come with a synthetic stock option.

What do you guys prefer?

My WH97K is synthetic, but that's because I got it second hand and at a good price. :D  I do prefer the wood stock of my Brocock, though have nothing against the synthetic stocks.  They are certainly more weather resistant for one thing.

I like wood.  :D Especially the ones with good looking grain (natural, not the multi colored plywood)

Plastic also tend to be lighter and doesn't dampen the springer kick as well. My two crosmans has identical power plant but I could never get the plastic one to shoot as well as the wood one, not sure if it's the weight issue or the newer plastic one is crappier quality.

Not talking about airguns here, but I've never owned a rifle with a synthetic stock.  Give me walnut (or birch, or whatever the Japanese used in WW2, or laminated like my Kar98k) any day.  :tu:

For me,i don't have a strong feeling one way or the other. All my guns, bar my Ratty, have wood stocks. Ive had a BSA Lightning XL Tactical, and I really liked the stock on that. Our club PCPs,two re wood stocked, two are synthetic, and with those( all single shot FX/Loguns) I much prefer the synethics

Well, I tried the HW90 at the club this morning  ::) ;)  First impressions. This thing weighs more than my HW97, but it cocks and fires very smoothly. At 35 yards accuracy is easy and the trigger is nice in use. Then the wheels fell off .. at 50 yards the pellet is taking an age to get to the target and huge holdover is required. Yep, it's obviously well down on power which can only mean a leak from the ram  ::) This explains the easy cocking and low recoil. Back in the gunslip for now until I work out what to do next  :)

If the ram itself is leaking, surely the whole ram would need to be replaced? I thought they were sealed units

No the ram is serviceable and spares are fairly cheap  :) But for now I may just pump it up a little and see how it goes. BTW this particular gun is the full length model so it is long enough to just poke a target over, no pellet needed

Re. the HW90. A few pumps into the ram and the gun is noticeably harder to cock but not stupid hard  :)  Power is 11ftlbs or so and recoil is there but quick and still soft. The good news is this rifle is very accurate indeed whilst being pleasant to shoot  :tu: Must be all that weight  and length (it's the full length model) ;)

I'll sort some pics tomorrow. Side by side to show how much longer the 90 is. The 97 got a piston liner today as well. I've been a busy chap  :)

I'm more than happy to run a synthetic stock on a real gun. Light, strong, and won't warp due to temperature or humidity like a wood stock can. Not so sure I feel the same way on an airgun though, and on either there's definitely something to be said for the feel of wood. I just got back into airsoft after a few years out and in that arena my preferences are totally flipped, with real stuff I want light and simple, with airsoft I love having a ridiculous block of metal with every conceivable accessory hanging off of it because with only 20 minutes a game and no lives depending on it why the heck not.

There is a Karbine version but at least the full length barrel gives plenty of leverage for cocking. Had a few shots through it today and it seems to be as accurate as the '97 at 25 yards.

I was going to ask how they feel in comparison; is the 90 notably smoother than the 97?

I broke out my 97 for a bit of shooting last night as well.  Happy to say I can still just about straight with it, despite the recoil I'm not quite so used to any more, but the weight!  It weighs a ton compared to my Brocock Concept. :o
