I do indeed have two smurfing good guns. :D  Also, other than a little bit of breeze, I couldn't have made this any easier on myself; sitting on a stool and resting the rifles on a bench, all at a very pleasant outdoor rifle range. :)

I also forget that not everyone shoots with a good 'scope on their guns. :-[

I was wondering about that. Do everyone use a scope? I use open sights...

neither of my rifles even have open sights, so I have to use a scope, whether I wanted to or not.

Maybe there should be class with scopes, and one without? Unless Im alone. Then I will find and mount a scope.

Grathr,I wouldn't worry too much yet. Both Gareth and I do HFT type shooting, where a half decent scope isn't an optional extra(and one day I might buy one )

You got a break barrel BSA,didnt you?

I think we'll have to keep this light and informal, Dtron's Daisy is never going to be able to out-shoot Kirky's BSA Ultra, no matter how good a shot Dtron is, so I think some kind of acknowledgement of that needs to be in order.

BTW, good shooting John.

Your quite right Gareth...

What I'm thinking is something like BB guns, and pistols at ten meters, say Diablo type rifles with open sights at 25m,and sad gits like us out at 50m?(assuming everybody is bench rested)

Or as above except PCP rigs have to be standing unsupported?

Sounds quite complicated, you are going to end up with everybody in their own class. Just have everybody shoot 10 meter offhand is a lot easier.

Great idea guys, and you've now got me wanting an air rifle again :D

One little airgun related rant, why don't they fit more rifles with iron sights? I appreciate most people use tele's, but it'd be nice to have the option!

there does seem to have been a move away from open sights, though you definitely can still get them if you want.  Weihrauch (for example) will still go a flippin good rifle with open sights. :)

The short answer, aside from fashion,is that top end air guns now tend to be purpose built hunters/competition guns, where the benefits of range finding scopes are immeasurable.

Having said that there's no end of good springers that come with iron sights.

Thanks :)

Is it possible to get a full power carbine springer with iron sights for about £150 do you think, as I've a bit of redundancy money coming at the end of the month and I may need a hobby while I'm job hunting lol

Mike yes, just don't expect to be getting a Wierauch or a Air Arms!

£150 or so will get you a brand new BSA Meteor.

SMK do Chinese made guns. The Bam DB4 starts at £60,runs about 8ft/lbs,and groups surprisingly well. Thier XS36 compares well to the current BSA under lever. Thier XS19 break barrel runs about 10ft/lbs for £110ish.

Depending where you are,I've a BAM B2 you can have Gratis!

Thanks mate, but I couldn't put you out like that :) I do appreciate the thought though!

I used to have a B2 when I was a teenager and it was nearly as tall as me :D

I quite like the sound of the Meteor, as I used to have a Supersport in .22 years ago :)

I've just donated my SMK B2 to the boatyard as there's been a few rat sightings. We did have a mink problem at one point, but that sorted itself out, then we had a rat problem for a while due to some dimwitted activities from one of our members. Then we got the mink back and the rats scarpered, and now we have occasional sightings of both. I was speaking to one of the members down there and we decided having a rifle down there in case someone got a rat on board was a good idea, but I believe a couple have been picked off on land too.

Myself I currently have a BSA Lightning XL. I'm not a great shot, but it has been very effective for pest control with Bisley flat heads in

I'm not too bad with my slingshots, but there a bit harder to shoot consistently :)

10m off hand suits me perfectly.  My garage is about 7m long, so I can shoot without the neighbours calling the police, thinking Im a terrorist or something.  ::)

Kirk, you asked earlier about my rifle: I have a £50 Umarex Hammerli Firefox 500 with iron sights.

Oh, and in the spirit of full disclosure I have to admit I was at the range yesterday afternoon and I couldn't shoot straight to save my life.  The targets looked like I'd been using a flippin' shotgun not a air rifle. :-[  Don't know what was wrong with me, the conditions were perfect so I can't even blame that, yet I just couldn't get my eye in at all. :-\
