I have a little problem. On the hunt for a 84mm Scissor with LNF I received a Small Climber from the bay. It's an early model with:
  • old type reamer
  • small clip point blade
  • old corkscrew
  • long nail file
  • broken back spring of the blade layer

That broken back spring of the blade layer saved the life of this knife. The tools are little used an nearly in a mint condition. The scales contain an Advertising inlay, so I would have to swap them with custom horn or ebony scales.
I allways liked the old type of the reamer, but for my pocket I originally and still wanted a 2 Layer knife.

It's really a hard decission leaving me those options:
Take this knife as once in a lifetime luck and make it your EDC (I have to restore it using a Modern Tourist backspring). Or mabe build a Golfer with LNF and an old style Tourist from it (and sell the tourist) or  trade it for a good Golfer.

I'm still not sure what to do. What do you recommend? Are there good beltbags for 3 layer 84mm knifes? This would be an option for EDCing. Oh and pics will follow soon.

It's a good little knife with life still to offer.and at 84mm,its not like having 3 layers makes it a uncomfortable size for pocket carry.

Metropolicity does an awesome Skinth for Wengers, I'm carrying my old Tinker in one :pok:

I would be unsure what to do myself, but just wanted to offer an old Recruit that I have which has buggered up blades and which would.
It might even have solid scales which can be filed to fit the old type reamer.

Let me know.

BTW: I sent Syph a PM regarding our little blade riddle.

@kirk: Which model is it? I looked at the skinth page but didn't find it. However, I would somehow prefere leather over skinth. Although the skinth work looks great in my eyes.

@thomas: Thx. But a recruit has no back tools, I assume. So it won't help here. :)
P.S. Waiting for Robert's reply.

For the record: If someone asks me to mod his Small Climber with LNF, I'll shoot him. Really! It's a very tough job with a lot of trial and error if you've never done it before.

The fourth pin for instance is split and has to be attached to the outer liners before you assemble it. But doing it, you have to peen a less than 0.5cm (~3/16 inch) pin very carefully, that it doesn't get compressed and thus blocks the backspring.
I wasted several pins and one outer liner. :(

However, this is a milestone for a custom horn scaled small climber:

notice the new backspring on the blade layer. It looks smoother than the older ones:

Oh and by the way: a 91mm long nail file is much easier to handle. The 4th pin is solid here. it's integrated into the backspring. Sorry, but I got only these 2 pictures from my assembled monster brick containing a 91mm LNF.

Here you see the solid 4th pin.

And the 3rd pin on the backside of a 91mm spring.

And because I already took some pictures:
91mm and 84mm LNF next to each other. I really like these tools.
