German Knife with SAW logo
on: August 19, 2013, 09:09:56 PM
I have owned a German Knife with SAW logo for awhile.  The tang read Germany INOX.  I need to know what the S-A-W within the shield means.  The knife is a common waiter's knife with 2 blades and a corkscrew that is professionally put together.  Thanks in advance for any help. ???

Does not ring a bell and the initials don't fit any german knife maker I know. Could be that the SAW is an advertisement print.

Probably someone with more knowledge on the subject will show up soon or I could move this thread over to the Swiss forum for you as most of the swiss collectors don't visit this subforum often.

Thanks for your answer.

Please move this question to the more active  Swiss forum.  I bet someone with a long memory can remember what S-A-W stands for.

Thanks again. :)

Well it says "German inox" on the blade, so its more likely a German production.

A result of a quick google check:
According to trademark registries, there was a company called "S.A.W. Company, S.A." producing sport-/hunting-/pocket knifes that went out of business in '98. Its very likely this is one of their victorinox knock off.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Thanks Etherealicer for the heads up.
Swiss Army Brands, Inc. Signs Agreement to Acquire Trademark Rights and Inventory of S.A.W. Company S.A.; Acquisition Will Strengthen Swiss Army Trademark On a Global Basis. From Aug 19,1999 Business Wire.  So this knife was made before Aug 1999 by a company that was bought out by Swiss Army Brands, Inc or Victorinox.
