Sak Bail's

It seems to me that there are just as many lovers as haters of the humble bail, I know that they can get in the way and that you can even ding the blade on them. But I love them, I think they give a knife real character :)

What about you guy's ???

Haven't owned a knife with a bail (although my SI does have the hollow rivet) but from purely an appearance POV, I prefer them without.

I kinda like 'em.   Feels old school carrying a knife with a bail.

I have to admit that I have nicked my blade a time or two on the bail
but the truth be known that is why I would carry an SI over the Soldier.

I now have a hollow rivet SI (with a lanyard running thru it) and I love it, IMHO it's the best of both worlds.

Right now though I have been carrying a NEW Pioneer (something about that RED ALOX).

You got to love ALOX if you don't you better get checked out.

I've got a love-hate relationship with my Wenger SI bail. I love the look and feel of the bail, but I am constantly nicking the blade on it. Honestly, I think I would prefer that they put the bail on the opposite end.  :-\

(I didn't vote in the poll. It needs a third choice for Love/Hate!)  ;)

I've never owned one, but I'm not adverse to the bail :D

I do like a hollow rivet for a lanyard attachment point as opposed to the split ring on my Vics.

Bails take me far back in time to the 'old school' stuff that I EDCed for years:  the Camillus Official Boy Scout Knife, the Camillus US Army Knife, the Case Camper, and the like.

All of those had bails that I regularly used to attach lanyards.  So, I guess that bails do have an association for me with the 'old school' knives that were somewhat heavier - but also very trustworthy and durable.

But, I did pretty much leave bails behind when I switched to carrying Vic Tinkers sometime in the early 80s.

Can I get another option: "Hollow Rivet with or w/o Bail"? I find that threading cord through hollow rivet works better for me than the bail - all the benefits of the bail or key ring, and no blade dings!  :D

No real big story. During the winter we do plant maintenance. Cant pour cement in freezing weather, so I was up on the catwalk fixing a rockcrusher and just dropped my wave. Good thing it just landed right, just some scratches and a ding in the handle that I had to pry at to get the main cutting blade to come out again, so lesson learned. I allways now carry 3 feet of para card in the pocket.

I like the bail . I do notice I have to take care closing the blade and lending the knife to someone is a no no as they always snap the blade shut on the bail .I never thought I'd like it until Benner gave me a Wenger SI and now I love it and its part of my EDC  :D

I don't have a bail on my SI so i can't comment but it would be nice to have (i think) Also what are people threading through the hollow rivet instead of the bail?

Is that because the bails been removed or did it come without one ?

I have a very thin red nylon cord running thru the hollow rivet. Don't know where it came from.  Trouble is you need something thin yet strong.

Braided Mason's Line and Type I Paracord will fit into a hollow rivet.

Also some Climbing/backpacking shops will have 1-1.5mm accessory cord and Kelty Triptease line.
