30th Anniversary Charge TTi Gold (with pictures)
on: August 28, 2013, 06:36:52 PM
There's been a few comments about this on other threads but I thought now I have my paws on one, I'd start a dedicated thread. I've seen from comments already posted that this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but for those who are interested, here is the Anniversary version of the Charge.
The presentation box is very nice, but identical to the Supertool 30th Anniversary version (obviously with a different cutout for the tool). It comes with an attractive, soft-grain brown leather sheath, pin badge, sticker and certificate. I had read somewhere that there were going to be 300 of these but in fact, mine is one of 1,000 produced.

Pics were taken on my crumby old camera but hopefully it gives a rough idea what the tool looks like...

I wonder how many were made. I am sure it will be a rare one. Nice score.
Err, even with 1000 made they will be very spare I bet. Surprises me there are that many though.

...

Yes, when it was first announced they were advertising it as a 300 units only run. All the promo pics said so. The XXX/1000 surprised me a bit. :-\ Did they at least drop the price a bit as it's not as limited as it was advertised to be? The German price was 599 € and  UK was £400 as the promo pics.

Both these prices were for the advertised XXX/300.

Is it my cup of tea?  No, not really.  But is it a cool piece of LM history to own?  You bet it is.

My biggest issue with this...its more of a Texas Toolcrafter special than that of Leatherman. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of Texas Toolcrafter items...and I do appreciate their workmanship. However, I didn't go for this one for the above reason. I just don't see it worth the price and from a third party at that with Leatherman's ok.

I must say, it does look nice...but then I expect that from Texas Toolcrafter mods.
A little Leatherman information.

TTC are/were (didn't check now) selling it for a fraction of the price, same model only without the anniversary print.

They gold plated... THE TOOLS?
Why would they do that?  Why not the scales?
Sorry, I'm just of the opinion than even a collectors item should be in some small way functional.

the gold plated tools actually serves a real purpose, getting chicks!     girls like money, and nothing screams too much money like pulling out a gold multitool

this is not for me, I have seen a few I liked (gold Rebar) but I doubt I will put too much money into it.

If I can help, let me know

I never went for one of those because at the time, I thought it was a Texas Toolcrafter piece. I didn't know it was also a Leatherman collaboration.

I like the look of this 30th anniversary Charge, but if I owned one, it would spend its life in the display cabinet  ::).

I just wish Leatherman would sell this sheath separately, it's the most beautiful sheath ever to come with a Leatherman in my opinion, and even if they sold it at a steep price, I would still get one (or two ... ::)).

Agree with you on the sheath.....
A lot of my collection is based around the different sheath/pouches that manufacturers released over the years. In some instances they are as interesting as the tools themselves.

I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

+1 on the sheath.

I've only seen it once before with a different model, the Damascus Wave. Similar though, not exactly the same sheath. Wish they had it in regular offer.

If someone parted with the charge,  they could keep the sheath.  I use the pocket clips and would use this one on a daily basis as I currently use mine.
