I have an alox silver caet that I have put red on one side and black on the shield
side.  You can get an instant bluejeans look by lightly wiping the dried nail polish
with an acetone soaked q-tip or tissue.  This cleans up the shield and the high points.

Mine look just like PaperCuts!   I am really pleased with the idea.

Clever, fun and inexpensive.  Great idea brother Papercut.

Watch out Sawman!  :ahhh
More painted alox.  :D

My only alox is an Amefa DAK, which is of course silver.
I found this thread, and decided to try out nail polish.  :ahhh

First colour:
The applied nail polish looked very thick and not so good looking, so I rubbed it away with acetone damp tissue until the only polish remaining was in the grooves of the checker pattern. The result, as you see.

Opinions? Criticism? I don't mind if you say it's bad, and suggest another colour. I used the above colour simply because it was the first non-sparkly colour I found in the house.
I will be trying more colours, feel very free to suggest good lookin' colours.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

I love this idea.

I love the look of worn red Alox, but both of mine are too special for EDC. But a current production Farmer could get this, and in a few short weeks it would have decades of wear. It's kinda cheap and lieing, but it's the only way most of us are going to afford really colorful alox, and the rest of you can keep that $400 Swissbianco special in the safe rather than carry it.

Besides, with this, I could do a stars and stripes Alox. Or apply this to a Skeletool or other Leatherman.

Looks great Pabs - looks like you are cherishing that SAK rather than abusing it so well done there!

I like the colour. How many coats did you apply?

I'll be interested to see how it wears and will be trying it out myself. I'll see what colours my wife and daughter have available.  :salute:

Thanks. :)
Try not to fill up the grooves, depending on the thickness of the polish, that may be a concern. One coat is all you need I think, you can always touch it up if necessary.

One coat, then I proceeded to rub most of it off.
I think rubbing most of the polish off is a necessary step, depending on the polish you use, because too much could look... Gaudy? Depending on the polish and your taste.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

The idea of nailpolishing once Alox knife is pretty insane, but so was Van Gogh. The most delirious ideas do make beautiful things!
So today I decided do some painting with nail polish on an old Amefa DAK.
I did only one side, so now I have a low budget modded bicolor DAK.
The nice thing is that I can match up the color of my knife with the same color as my wife's nails! Ain't that sweet?

Or apply a sort of 'Who's afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue".
Or something like Piet Mondriaan's "Victory Boogie Woogie"! Filling up the grooves with different colored lines. Maybe I will request a patent for my idea...

Exactly what kind of scar could I cover with the nail polish that you can see?
The edges where I might ding it due to drops are unpainted, as is most of the pattern except the grid and lettering.

Altough I think soft colours cover up bruises best.
