New Multitool Storage Facility
on: March 13, 2014, 12:20:32 AM
During my work travels the other day I ended up in a bank that was being built.  The vault had been installed, but none of the decorative walls had been built around it, nor any of the furniture installed inside it.  This vault is going to be dedicated to safety deposit boxes, but I thought the construction was pretty neat and I figured you all might be interested in seeing it.

What employee hasn't thought about locking their boss in a giant steel box?   >:D

The door on this thing isn't messing around.

It was interesting to see that the vault wasn't constructed as a steel box with reinforced corners, but a series of overlapping steel plates- each one several inches thick!   :ahhh

Inside the corners seemed to be the weak point, but then that's like pointing out the weak point of a boulder, mountain of M4A1 tank.

All in all this is one of the reasons I enjoy my job- it really is something different every day, and I get to see all kinds of cool things that most folks never see.

It's amazing the hinges can support the door.

I tried, but all cameras within 5 miles of Bob's place are confiscated by his security force so that photos can't leak out!

That is all door by the way- not just the bit where my hand is.  The outside is the edge just past my pinky finger, the inner edge is the black part on the opposite side of the silver part from my hand.  That means this door is two hand spans thick.  Now I may not have very big hands, but that is still a lot of door!   :ahhh

Some of us have collections that could warrant such a safe. I'm not quite there yet but I love the security!  :salute:

I handle on site verification of cargo for insurance and shipping companies.  Basically, I verify the condition of cargo and isolate potential causes of damage at certain points, usually when it changes from one organization's responsibility to another.  That way, if damage appears somewhere along the line we can pinpoint exactly where and how it happened, and more importantly who gets to pay for it.

In this case a new bank was being constructed and we were called in to confirm some construction supplies were damaged so that a claim could be submitted for it.  While in the new bank we had the opportunity to look around a bit, and that vault just happened to be sitting there... :D

based on the growth rate of my collection, I may need such a vault soon for my Fettish  :ahhh
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.
