Spirit Scissors Imrovement
on: May 07, 2008, 03:54:39 PM
Got tired of the scissors on my spirit only opening halfway, half of the blades never leaving each other, impossible to use...Only 3/16" available edge makes it extremely hard to cut verry far verry fast..

To the Dremel!

The spring sat in a little notch, great to keep pressure, no free unspringy travel, but it also didn't let it swing open and off the spring... I remover the one side tab from that notch.

Now it actually opens all of the jaws.

Nice mod!

I've found the Spirit scissors to be really excellent for heavy cutting and was just pondering how to open them up a little last week.

Does it make closing any more difficult?

How much metal is there to removed?

I don't have a dremel so could it be done easily with a file?

 :)

Closing is fine, unless you leave them all the way open in a + shape... otherwise the curver on the handle pushes them closed, as you close them into the handle just as it does before the mod.

The tab I took off is just the thickness of that scissors half, maybe 1/16" thick?, and about 3/16" wide... not much. But its some hard stuff. Vic sure knows what their doing with their heat treating, it took me a bit with a carbide carving bur in the dremmel. I think a file might be reeeeeeeaaaaaly slow, and hopping for a lot if it cuts it at all.
