Sooooo the new surge really needs to come out already

Surely somebody here has heard something about a release date aside from "early September"!

I am with you on that one. It is strange how secretive they have been with it. Besides the pictures of the packaging from the Leatherman factory, we haven't seen anything since SHOT. I don't even want the new Surge, but I am ready to have all of this years stuff out so we can get on to hopefully better things next year!

I am disappointed that they removed the precision bit driver and replaced it with a small screwdriver. I was hoping leatherman would make a proper caplifter that doubled as a medium screwdriver. I hate trying to open bottles with the can opener.

Yeah the can opener is tough to use on bottles without looking like an idiot when opening a woman's beer so I just use the plier heads actually.  Once you practice it a few times it is super easy. One time when doing it, this girl said "what, that thing doesn't have a bottle opener on it?" I just said yeah, but this works too!

I estimate that every MT.O member EDCs an average of 27 cap-lifters, so I'm kinda shocked by your statement.
31 Ways to Open a Beer Bottle Without a Bottle Opener
That said I would have loved to see a dedicated scrape tool and a pry bar like the Gerber MP1 only better ;), after all this is supposed to be a work hose not a kitchen tool.

but above all I would like to see the final product, 'cause I'm hooked on the idea of buying one.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

See, I usually get in trouble when I complain about Leatherman's bottle opener.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that dislikes it.

Yeah, Leatherman made a can opener that you can open bottles with .... carefully. Rather like the MP1 looks like they made a bottle opener that you can pry with .... a bit .... carefully .... maybe :P :D :D

Leatherman has "borrowed" a lot from Gerber lately, maybe they should consider borrowing the bottle opener design from the Octane too.

While I do have several multitools, and most of them include a cap lifter, I usually only have one on me at a time. Seems dumb to carry more than one multitool at a time.

"I carry the Skeletool because it has an awesome caplifter, but the rest of the tool is garbage. But this Wave is better at everything else so I have it with me as well. And I carry a PS4 because my keys get so lonely. And now my pants weigh 20 pounds." Duh

The Surge is suddenly gone from the leatherman pages (look under multitools, and then heavy duty tools), and that is probably a good sign, isn't it? Getting ready to get the new one out there, don't you think? Hopefully it will be here shortly. As for the small screwdriver instead of eye-glass bit-driver, simply love it. I have been using the eye-glass driver in my charge and wave, but not often, and I have very often missed a small flat-head driver for electrical work, that could offer just a bit more reach than the bit in the same driver size. The eyeglass bit-driver should be a bit for the large bit-driver, not a stand-alone tool in my opinion.

Actually, I don't see the Surge missing from the official website; the original is still there.  However, over in Facebookland, they said, "They are nearly ready to go! Not much longer to wait now; many are being packaged up and are getting ready to ship out."  Post is about 24 hours old.  I don't know why they don't update the site now, but whatever.

I like the eyeglass driver and am sorry to see that it will be missing.  I may have to finally do my first mod and change that out with my [soon-to-be] 'old' Surge to go on the new one.  I guess they could have made it so it could have been combined somehow with the bit driver.  What I'm looking forward to, more than anything, is the new hold-down on the blade exchanger.  Oh yeah!

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm about ready to pull my hair out waiting for this mother to be released.  SO DO IT ALREADY, LM!!!!   :ahhh

Anyone know yet where they plan to purchase theirs?

I'm already past the blood rush. If you tak in to account the actual release date, time for the suppliers to receive the stock, actual availability on the shelf, fake preorders, shipping delays... Not to mention some of us are in UK. I would love to get my hands on the new Surge as I work with my MT every day.

But be real and be aware that it will take another month or so for them to be truly available...

I think that Leatherman only released the New Surge because they ran out of ideas.

I guess that curling tool is taking longer to get right than they expected.
