I would agree that SAK had became a tradamark of macgyver, lots of people bought SAK because of him me included :D So its gona be weird if he won't be using SAK, but I wouldn't be surprised if he will be using other brand of multitool, case in point changes in The Transformers.

As much as it seems like a huge leap to many of us, a plier based multitool is, in a lot of ways, the modern equivalent of what a SAK is.  We used to think of a SAK as the ultimate pocketable survival kit, and that's still true, but the plier based tool is basically the next step in the evolution.

Originally everyone carried small fixed blades, until folding knives came along.  Then everyone had folding knives, which eventually advanced to include multibladed and locking knives.  Following that along, the SAK was the next logical step because it added other features.  Unfortunately Victorinox hasn't updated their basic design since the 60's (although there have been many upgrades and revisions) and up until recently, Wenger was the same way.  As a result, they seem old fashioned by comparison to modern multis which incorporate fancier materials and advanced designs.

My theory is that if it works well then it will always work, so a "dated" SAK design doesn't bother me one bit.  However, when you are talking Hollywood, it has to be new, and exciting and sexy, or it's not worth having.  New Leatherman models fit that bill, while a 50 year old SAK design doesn't.

I agree with you Def, I think there is a big likelyhood macgyver will be carrying a LM. Unfortunetly there is some movement in hollywood that discourage what they deemed as dangerous portrayal in movies of dangerous items, which may include locking blades. Hope macgyver won't end up with a paper clip or worse a plastic spoon.

One important fact, when MacGyver first aired, Leathermans/Multitools didn't even exist.
I just hope they don't PC macgyver to the point a big group hugs and tofu solves all problems.

That would suck!!

That may be another reason for the Leatherman in the new movie- Leatherman TOOL versus Swiss Army KNIFE.

That would make a cool movie.  Ray Harihausen's "Clash of the Titans II:The multitool wars"

I have been following and commenting on this over at KnifeForums. To me the only way it would work is if MacGyver
was a "BrandNew" version which would mean that the script writers would have to depart from what made "Mac"
well,"Mac".I guess a good example would be a nephew or son, steps into the role, hence a new approach to the character would be acceptable.

The thing that would bother me would be if a company like Leatherman,or Gerber would step in and throw a bunch of
money at the Studio for the character to use their respective product,or products.

At this point they should just go for broke and let MacGyver run around with a Nascar style Bomber Jacket with anyone's Logo on it that will pay the Studio's price.

Maybe I am bieng too critical,or worse trivial.

Well,Hopefully the Studio will keep it fair.If Vic sent the SwissTool X it would be all over for Leatherman. :climber: :sak:It would be tough enough for them if they had to go up against a SwissChamp and a pair of ViseGrips LOL  Leatherman fans I am just TEASING

Well it's not really a departure from the average person's point of view, as they see him using whatever is handy, and the brand of pocket tool isn't important- just the fact that he has one.  I tend to agree with you honestly, but the general public doesn't see much difference between a SAK and a multitool.

Still, it will be another film with MULTITOOL PORN in it!!!! :gimme:

But if they want to do a movie,  Why don't they do a Mythbusters movie??
If they can do one for Steve Erwin(crocodile hunter), they can do one for Jamie and Adam.

I even have the perfect plot:
They're driv ing from Frisco to Vegas, for some big cable TV convention.
They make a wrong turn and their car breaks down in the middle of AREA 51(a MYTH-rich enviroment!!)

So It Jamie and Adam versus the NWO scientists/aliens!!
