As one just "thinking" about SAK mods and working on acquiring some "volunteers" I am trending towards the screw attachment method so counter sunk hole pattern scales would be of interest to me. From what I gather, one you have a CAD design you can print it in a variety of materials.

Just a thought though, the threaded pins are basically 1/8 inch so would the holes be made for a common standard screw? The counter sink shape would be shaped like this |_| rather than \/ correct? I was even looking to the flat screws as well, like these.

I just wish I had the where-with-all to be a "Patron" of this type of experimentation!

Oh I like the backside driver idea.  If I could find a cheap driver extension with a hex socket I bet I could just grind it down and make it fit.

Something like the leatherman bit driver extender.  But Im sure there is something cheaper to be found for a couple of bucks.

PM me or email sakmodder [at] gmail . com if you are looking for custom SAK work.

This should shed some light on the various countersinking options for countersunk socket head screws like the ones Syph uses on his modded 93mm saks...

A counter-sink is a 90deg conical bore ( \_/ ), most commonly used with the screw type pictured above.
A counter-bore is a cylindrical bore ( |_| ), Typically used for pan head or standard socket head screws -- also used to increase depth of a countersink without increasing the max conical radius.

My preference is the middle option, a counter sink with added counter bore.

I need to write a full post on this, but a China sak has alox scales one can use as is for 91mm Vics. This is another option.

Lurking with a large collection of sharp knives!

as promised, photos of the first printed copy of these custom 91mm scales

The material is 'Polished Alumide' which is plastic with tiny aluminum flakes blended in.  it sparkles! Looks nice and the knurled texture came through pretty well too, giving a non-slip grip feel.

There are a few minor problems with my initial dimensions, but those should be sorted out in CAD soon, and in plastic they should snap right on.

Here she is on a spankin new camper:
(Image removed from quote.)

still waiting for scans of the scales for accurate dimensions so i can offer the other sizes, etc..
Stay tuned

That is VERY cool and impressive work!

So where is this thread at nowadays?  Is it possible to get that driver done that fits on the back side of the sak and mayde an adapter that changes it from the 4mm to a 1/4 in drive for stock bits?

:D
