Wenger ranger owner's club (pic heavy)
on: September 15, 2013, 07:00:19 PM
I've been planning on buying a Wenger ranger for a while, but yesterday I unexpectedly got one for free from a neighbor who is moving. It is an old style mountaineer that says pat pend on the tang so I assume its from near the beginning of the ranger series production. It may be old but it is in like new condition and I am loving it. Rangers are so drool worthy of course we need a thread for them!

I used to own a Ranger, I think one was even my first SAK... I believe the Ranger Everest. I've had another one, but Enki has that one now

Really? Did you check out old, new, oho and 2ho? The older ones certainly are much slimmer as has been said many times.

Pretty much. I'm not a big fan of the Vic 111mm,but they'd be a better option for me

Just means more money to spend on 84,85,91 and 93mm models :ahhh

Thought I replied to this thread yesterday ....

I have the Rangergrip 90 and the older Ranger 14. I like both of them, although I wish the 90 didn't have the "fat arse" from the oversized scales. The 90 I got for use as an "outdoorsy" knife (hiking/camping etc) though I'd really like to sort those scales out before using it out in the open with cold hands. The 14 has come in quite useful in the garden and I've used it a lot this year when tidying up my tomato plants etc.

I haven't seen any other Ranger models that grabbed my attention like these two did.

A few weeks ago at a flea market i picked up one of the older 120mm Wenger Mountianeers for 10 bucks because one one the scales was broken and needed a bit of 2 part epoxy. Now it is good to go.

A few years ago I bought  130mm Rangergrip79.  A Big honking knife for hikes and camping.  Sometimes I take it on walks for protection from dogs.

Ranger 56 here as my regular pocket EDC. I know, call me different. It replaced my Vic Hunter which had to run back to the wild. When the time comes to switch again I will most likely go back to a Vic 111mm but I have no complaints. This is a tough knife without the blade play that many 111mm slide locks are known for.

Here are some of the Rangers that I own.

The top pic is of two old school 120 Ranger side locks.

The next picture is of two newer 130 Rangers.

The last picture at the bottom is a combination of a new limited edition Snow Camo 130 Ranger flanked by two older but NIB Camo 120 Rangers with their box.

I have a couple. I like them, but they're too big to carry most times.

The only time I have need of such a big blade is for food prep or bush-wacking.

For example, the blade is long enough to cut the cheeks off a mango in one slice per cheek.

For bush-wacking, if you find yourself on a trail that is getting overgrown and you have a Ranger on you, no problem.

Very Sturdy Tools.  I love them.  I also had a Hunter 58 with the hooked gutting blade.  Gave it to my brother a couple of years ago
