I think it comes with the blade uninstalled, but I am not 100% sure on that one.

I saw it on the website just a few minutes ago.

http://www.leatherman.com/358.html#start=11

49.85

A little pricey for a gift for a kid if you ask me.
Although
video games cost more so  it's probably worth it .

That's just MSRP. Should come in at around $35. Not to bad in my opinion.

20.00-25.00 would be better

Most definitely. I was just thinking if it where in the $20-$25 range I would be more inclined to buy it as a gift for the young ones.
On the other hand every kid has a 500$ phone with a data plan that costs IDK how much, so 35$ is not that bad.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

All the SHOT show videos said it came with, in a little plastic dohickey for easy install 'when your child was ready'.

I don't know. I never knock a tool until I have one in my hands. Mind you, that is coming from a tool fanatic that likes the odd, bizarre and downright strange. :D

Well, when and if I get them, it will be for two nephews...eh, one of whom may not be ready age-wise.  At any rate - I admit to some excitement when I saw it announced - for them.  This is one LM tool I can honestly say I have no interest in for myself [and, frankly, it's a bit of a relief].

I don't hang all my hopes for the ultimate kid's multi on this particular item.  On the other hand...I am looking to buy something of quality for them that they can use for years on.  So, if they aren't complete douches with them - and they're made well...hey, my job is done.

All I can say is - if I were LM and making a product like this, for the children...I'd hope I'd think it through - oh, really really well.  Otherwise, I'd have visions of lawsuits dancing in my head.  'How'd the company end, then?'  'Uh, well - we, uh, made this tool for kids'.

Anyway, too late now!  Train's left the station.  Good luck kids and LM!   :D

FYI - per LM's Facebook page:

"The Leap will be shipping to retailers and available online in the next couple weeks!"

So, really September then - for all practical purposes.

I would be surprised if they actually have them in hand right now as Leatherman has not even released them on the website. With that said, stranger things have happened.

LM does list it on their site, but as not yet available.
Usually take them a while to update the site.

That's what I mean't. They have not listed them as available yet.

I would not be surprised if Cutleryshoppe does in fact have them.

I may order one for my 9 yr God daughter. She's a bit of a tomboy and already has a Micra. Oddly, I think think could make a good Juice replacement if Leatherman made just a few changes.

I agree. I am tempted to get one of these for my own pocket carry. Very favorable tool/load for off-duty carry.

I hate to say it but it actually is looking like a pretty neat tool to me. I wonder if the wire cutters are the same as on the Wingman or if these actually close all the way.

Well, I'm taking one for the team folks!

My curiousity got the better of me and I ordered a red one.

If the tools, especially the scissors, work as they're supposed to, I don't see why this wouldn't make a good pocket carry tool.

Look neat and a great way for the targeted audience to familiarize themselves with MTs.  The blade installs much like the Vic Rescue tools blade. I like the colors, but whats the handle material?  Rubber, plastic, some type of coating?

Doing the math here, it takes 14 months from filed for a patent to it is available to order.
14 months.

According to LM's website, it's a glass filled nylon. Supposed to be light-weight and durable.
