Wait a moment....   Thomas has one, and now Al has one.  According to Gerber subforum rules, I'm required to get one too, aren't I?   I guess I'll have to take care of that in a week or so......

Yeah, sad to say I believe that is the rule. :-\

I was watching TV and i saw that it's now the new law. Gerber Diesels & Balances for all. I have been a law abiding citizen for most of my life.

I'm still in two minds over the Diesel.  On one hand it has a lot of the tools I need/want, on the other it's not doing anything that one of my other MTs doesn't do already.

Cheers for all the thoughts folks, any and all experiences are still most welcome.

That's it in a nutshell! As a tool it's perfectly fine and will serve many users very well indeed - but just doesn't have that WOW factor that makes it stand out from the rest. If you can get one uber cheap on Amazon, it's still worth getting one to play with  ;)

I was comparing it with the BG Strata last night, and it's a tough call. The Diesel feels a lot more robust and the file and scissors are in a different class to the Strata - but a lot of the features on the Strata (knife, opener tool - which is excellent BTW, saw, Phillips) have the upper hand in my mind

been busy with putting things back in order from my side of the planet.

a bad knee can really wear you down. I have some torn ligaments on the right knee and it can really get bad during forest hikes. hopefully you'll be back in perfect rifle shooting, slipjoint slicing form in no time!
Cheers,
Gabriel

If it folds up as nicely as the Flik,it might get the bladeless wonder treatment

Just had a look £25.50.  However it is still a Gerber!  Although I could get one just to keep my loathing current I suppose.

I had my loathing confirmed at the meetup, I don't need to spend my money confirming they're no good

Apart from the MP700, that was very nice.

If I can get the full 3D Phillips from the MP600 on to the Diesel I'll happily lose the blade and the 2D Phillips. :)

They do need a good  :twak: it seems....
Or maybe they shozuld be condemnded to closing 200 M 13 nuts with a Mr. Pinchy  >:D

Back to topic:

I already dug out a 3D Phillips for my Diesel. I think about giving up on the can opener and 2D Phillips instead, as I can legally keep the blade.

Not sure how thick the lanyard ring is on the Diesel, but if it's anything like some other Gerber ones that can be gotten rid off IMO.

The lanyard ring is one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to Gerber tools. That and the blade shape.

Hey, they might release something that's decent! I did get a little excited about the MP1 until I read the reviews. I also thought Kirky might convince me that the Fit was worth a punt, but he seems to have convinced himself that it isn't instead

Agreed. They just look awful to me. Some of the MP600s have drop points (what do you call a blade that's like an upside down sheepsfoot?) which look much better.
