I noticed today that it you write wrissmurfch, it gets changed to wrissmurfch! LOL! Very funny!
What other words get this treatment?

At one point before MTO I used smurf instead of swear words. Then when I joined here and saw it I knew it was a good place.

A while back I offered to change the censor to something else, but no one seemed to want it changed so it's stayed smurf.

Originally though, for anyone interested in MTO history, it was "Colorful Enunciation" which I borrowed from the forum at Knifeforums.com. It seemed like the sensible thing to put until one day I decided we needed our own censor word. I'd thought of putting in more family friendly words like "bum" and "poop" and "Lady Parts" to replace the naughty words, but in the end I decided "smurf" was a lot funnier. If I recall, "smurf" was just supposed to be a temporary thing until I'd decided what words to replace all of the other words with- for example, the big daddy F word is a hard one to define, and the best I could come up with was "fornicate" as in "Go fornicate yourself you fornicating piece of poop" which is of course hilarious when read aloud. Smurf just seemed to fit best, so I left it, especially since members seemed to enjoy it.

For your amusement, here is the post I made on October 11, 2010 to let the Admins and Mods know that I'd changed it:

How automatic is it? Are all post stored in their original goodness and then put through the filter to display or is it as they're saved that it's applied? If you change the work will all instances of smurf change to the new word?

I'd also love to know how many people self sensor to smurf.

It changes it completely. There isn't a record of the naughty word somewhere, so if I changed the censor word to something else you'd still see smurf on all old posts.

That is a special honor reserves for a piece of smurf server company that almost sank MTO. I'd hate to overuse it and diminish the value of what those smurfholes did to us.
