DIY 25 cent Vic pen

You can make your own Victorinox plus scale pen using stuff you can find in office supplies fairly cheap. I buy these multipen refills for a bit over $1 for a 4pack. I use them in my multipen, Zebra telescopic pen and to make "Vic" pens.



Here's a short How to.

The pen is slightly longer than a Vic pen.




Cut the excess of and find some plastic that you can use as a back piece/pull tab/whatever you call it. I used an old Vic large toothpick. When I buy used SAKs off of eBAy I always replace the toothpicks so I'm left with a few old ones for this. But you can use whatever you want.



Using an xacto knife or anything sharp shave the excess plastic from the bottom so it fits the pen hole snugly, preferably so that the pen cuts it's way into the plastic a bit.



Push the tab into the back hole of the pen.



You'll notice the tab is slightly larger than the original. No problem, we still need to angle it the other way. Use your favorite file to do so.



If you want, you can color the tab using a sharpie or similar to give it that look. And voila.  A 25 cent pen.

Wow,   that is awesome!   Not to mention I can get black ink now!   My work frowns on blue ink,  so this is awesome.

The sad Part is I just replaced all the toothpicks,  threw the old ones away.   Oh well, I will keep them from now on.

Has anyone ever put another pen on the other scale?   It looks like there is room for it

I've seen Vic mechanical pencils (on ebay, recently) sized to fit plus scales, but I can't help wrt whether a second pen/pencil might be added.

OK,  on the way to school I checked 3 office supply stores, Walmart, target, and even a little mom and pop office store.  I saw nothing even close to these, except one refill that was $8!!

not sure if these will work, I just hate the fact they are $0.40 for 6, but $5.00 shipping,  and the shipping is per item, I cannot buy 10 sets and pay a reduced shipping.

However, I did notice that the slot in the plus scales could be modified to gain about another cm or so.
