Anyone EDC the Crunch?
on: May 10, 2008, 08:10:23 PM
Getting the bug again and have been trying to decide what's next. :)

I had a crunch a number of years ago, but did not use it much.

Been thinking about buying another one..  :twak:

Lately I've been EDCing a Spirit and a Crunch and I've got all the bases covered and then some when it comes to gripping stuff.  The Crunch isn't a huge bulky tool when it's closed (or opened), so there's really no excuse NOT to carry it IMO :multi:

Sometimes a pair of locking pliers can't be substituted by anything else!

I did, until the tools in the handle would no longer hold in place.

I did for awhile but then went back to my Charge.  I just didn't have enough uses for a locking plier to justify carrying it over something with standard needle nose pliers.  Although I agree, it's a very small tool when folded.  More so than many others.  Maybe I'll break it back out and try using it again.

I did for quite a while.

Found it exactly as useful as a typical needlenose multi, just in different ways. My favorite use of the tool was as a clamp/third hand, an amazingly useful feature that isn't a listed implement but really should be. If I could figure out how to put a saw and a scissors in there I would EDC it forever.

Like Ryan I'd be tempted to get one as a cycle tool :)

If I had one I'd edc it but since I can't seem to win one on Ebay gonna be a while (since I am cheap) :D I'd try it on some type of heavy machinery too   :climber:

I'll put the bug eyed bike back together if I can keep it after :) Why is it apart? Or is the Harley apart?

the harley is in pieces, the only working thing on it is engine although im modifyin it more into xr1000 style by takin of the rear hear and replacin it with one front head.this way i can put the exhaust pipes differently, more straight form and there will be also two throat dellorto 36 dhlb carburetors.its been stroked to almost 1300 cc now by boring and stroking, and it has race cams and magneto, longer first gear, othervise its rather stock;).the frame will be really long and low old school gooseneck style, and shortened, modified springer front end with one leaf spring, instead of those stock dual spiral springs.the block has been cut,and the gearbox removed, siince it will have gears from big twin h-d.the ironhead gear boxes tend to crack at violent accelerations :D

Has anybody mounted a camera tripod head on a Crunch?

Locking pliers can make a very nice camera support.

Funny this thread came back up now- I've been seriously contemplating pressing my Crunch back into service.  While it may be limited in other functions, I have found myself over the last few weeks wishing I'd brought it with me while doing different things because locking pliers would have been a serious benefit.  Other than trying to take the doors of my Jeep, I can't think of anything else I would have wanted them for off the top of my head, I just remember thinking that!

I dug it out earlier today to add it to the EDC rotation.

Try carrying it alongside another more traditional tool...the Crunch isn't big/heavy at all in those old small leather sheaths.
