Most useful 91mm pry tool?
on: March 28, 2018, 05:40:36 PM
My knee jerk answer would always have been that the width and strength of the bottle opener makes it the better pry tool (and I think it might be advertised as such), but I’ve recently found myself using the can opener more often because it’s SD tip can get in the smallest of cracks. If you had to pick only one 91mm tool for prying, what would it be? For the purposes of this conversation, let’s ignore the other functions of the tool (i.e. assign no value to driving screws or popping beers)

It depends on what are you trying to pry. If it's a heavy, thick wooden crate or a watch case. I think awl of them have a place and time where they're the best tool for the job.

The bottle opener works great for light, routine prying tasks.   The can opener works for jobs that a watchmaker's knife is best, such as disassembling electronics which often have the main case held together by a snap-fit. Combo tool is only used when I'm only carrying a Walker, which at present is the only model I have with it. Being as it's only as thick as the pen blade, I don't' even use it on tough screws as a screwdriver.

Agreed, Cody.   The can opener is best for prying off scales.  For heavier tasks,  definitely el Caplifter.   :salute:

I can use the can or the bottle opener, but I've been using the can opener a lot to remove staples. I'm not even using the SD tip, but rather the pointy can opener part to get underneath the staple and open it up.

My 91mm models have both (except my Waiter, and I do not carry that ever), so I just use whichever tool fits.
That's what she said.

Agreed.  It depends on the task.
I also find the can opener to be great at staple removing, but I start with the small sd tip.

I've done the same thing numerous times. That can opener blade is quite versatile.

Agreed with above. I have dulled the shark fin on the can opener, just a bit so it doesn't accidentally cut anything
