The Slingshot Thread.
on: October 12, 2013, 09:24:39 PM
It seems that I have been buying various slingshots lately, and I thought some of you might enjoy photos of them.

It all started when I came across these 3 carved animal motif slingshots. I thought they might look cool hanging on a wall as decoration.

I haven't gotten around to hanging them yet...but that got me thinking about slingshots in general. This means I will have to buy a few other models and try them out probably next spring when the nice weather comes around again.

So this is what I have been able to find locally so far.

Daisy PowerLine F16 Slingshot:

Simple slingshot with a nice comfortable molded grip.

Daisy PowerLine P51 Slingshot:

This one features a lot of adjustability. You can loosen two bolts and slide the upper arm assembly back and forth. Features a forearm brace.

Barnett Cobra:

Features an interesting sight system and weight stabilizer that protruded from the front. The whole thing can easily be removed. Features a forearm brace, and apparently, a higher end surgical rubber band.

Two folding style Slingshots. The one on the left is a Bell Woodsmans Slingshots Model MK-T1C. The one on the left is a Barnett Black Widow.

And a group shot of my recent acquisitions.

A little Leatherman information.

You got some really good ones there.

I've found that my preference isn't the wrist supported ones as they aren't overly comfortable (small) and tend to break in my hands

Chako,

I saw an interesting thread in another forum, and thought it will probably be an interesting addition to anyone who is collecting slingshots, it is so ridiculously accurate and powerful that is probably borderline dangerous  :D

I am thinking collective thread. Anything slingshot related. So feel free to post anything related.

Just found this "What to buy" info.

http://www.melchiormenzel.de/info_buy.html

EDIT: I did some research on that laser slingshot. Looks like it got a lot of bad press on a slingshot forum. I think I will have to stay away from it based on the complaints mentioned.

To answer the why do we need slingshots question.
For the ladies and civilized men:
We could start with the argument of survival hunting but that shouldn't be the case. Truth be told small rodents can be hunted efficiently and perhaps birds with a slingshot but the chances of that being reality and a solid reason is far fetched.
A much better argument is legality of such contraptions. They are legal in some shape and form in almost all places of the world while even small caliber firearms are not. So thinks like plinking become possible with minimal equipment. Being realistic it is mostly a novelty and fun item that can be enjoyed by the entire family.
The more serious applications would be scarce as opposed to good ol' having fun but they do exist, again mostly for rodent control or a bit of mischievous Robin Hood like deeds.

For rednecks, hillbillies, everyone else who might have some sort of connection to those terms (even if imaginary) and who can grow a beard:
It's a pretty quiet tool that shoots projectiles and fits in your pocket. Doesn't have much of a recoil and is easy to use even for the young ones. And it can git coons, rabbits, squirrel and birds.
You can also shoot firecrackers out of 'em. So why the hell not?

As for the board cut. It does make the frames cheap and easy to replicate.  However finding good quality material is not easy.

My hint to those guys who want to build some board cuts, you can laminate 1/4" sheets to make a 3/4 or full inch board that is a super high strength with out having to cut that super tough 3/4 stuff.

The best is Baltic birch.

I cheat and design in cad and illustrator and then laser cut my 1/4", laminate them together, sand off the burned edges then go to town with my table top router.
