I got this figure 8 at a yard sale last weekend for .25 when I have a chance me and my dermal are making a small pocket sling out of it.

Gene, that reminded me of this....my daughter sent me the link (said it had me written all over it) :D

I've been wondering if they were any good.  They sure look cool!

Here are a couple of photos of my big slingshot.  It is designed for launching tennis balls for dogs, but as I don't have dogs that can play like that currently (Daisy is getting a bit old to run that far and Jackson doesn't feel the need to return) I have claimed it for my own nefarious purposes.....   >:D

Necroing this thread. I've seen this recently and am very tempted to give it a try. Anyone knew about it? Has anyone tried it?

I am a newbie on this site My latest addition to my slingshot collection is a TOPS Mini Sling.  When they say Mini, they mean it!!!

Works best with .24 diameter lead buck shot or 3/8  inch steel bearings. For it's size it is surprizingly powerful.

I will be takin it fly fishing to kill any Snakehead fish that I may come across.  Use it instead of a Mini 22lr revolver.

Great thread! I made a slingshot during the Nessmuk Challenge!

Day 5

Much better than the two tiny ones. This fills my hand better, and is much sturdier.

Day 10

I also got to strip the bark off the slingshot. The Light My Fire Mora has a thinner blade and is better at this task, but the Companion Spark did the job just fine. The wood is not completely dry. Should be good enough.

Day 16

I finished my slingshot. :like:
I used shock-cord, gorilla tape, my Yamaha Heavy Duty Pocket Driver with a 1/8" drill bit, and the Rebar.
For the pouch, I used a 3.5" piece of gorilla tape tripled over. I made holes with the reamer. I cut two 30" pieces of shock-cord, which attached to the pouch with a lark's head knot. I drilled two holes in each arm, threaded the cord through, and tied friendship knots. Some minor adjustments to get the two shock-cord loops the same length, to have the pouch in the middle, and it is ready. I have very few steel ball bearings, so I'll have to buy more, or just find small round-ish pebbles, or use glass marbles.

Thoughts:
-This was tons of fun.
-My pouch should be 4" to allow larger projectiles.
-The two holes for the shock-cord should have been closer to each other.
-I used shock-cord loops to get two lengths on each arm, for more stability, since I did not use flat bands.
-If you go this route, drill holes that match the shock-cord. Too big holes, and you'll get too much clearance. 1/8" holes for mine are perfect.
-Drill the holes carefully, at the right angle and orientation, and running parallel to each other. Go slow.
-Cut longer bands than you need. You can always make it shorter and trim it down.
-If you make the pouch/seat out of Gorilla tape, do not use too many layers. You do not want it too stiff.
-I tripled over the gorilla tape while having it on a table. When it was finished, it sat flat, so when I bend it to house a projectile, it makes a crease in the middle. When making a gorilla tape pouch, make it by curving the tape around a bottle or another cylindrical object, so that when the pouch sits idle, it is naturally curved.
-Do not make the pouch holes too big. It will unnecessarily weaken the pouch when you draw.
-Do not make the holes in the pouch too close to the edge. The bands may rip through it.
-When removing the bark, the grip will become slightly narrower. Use a Y branch that fits your hand, or that is a little larger. Remove the bark and just sand it down until you are comfortable holding it.
-When you first test it, make sure you have tied the bands and pouch properly, and wear eye protection.

PFRSantos,
Thank you for the welcome and Cheers!!!

Punch,
Nice slingshot project.  Reminds of basically many years ago when basically all slingshots were home made. Old bicycle tire tubes were the basic "propellent"

Woodsduck,
That looks like a very nice set up you have there!!!!

Every once in a while there is a slingshot article in   The Backwoodsman  Magazine about using slingshots for hunting for frogs and such.

Always interesting to read such articles.
