Minichamp Owners Club
on: October 13, 2013, 02:31:03 PM
I have been digging around and I should say I am a bit surprised I couldn't find a Minichamp Owners Club. I bough a Minichamp two months ago for use as a secondary small knife. But each day I find that I tend to use it more and more frequently, and it almost replaces my Explorer most of the time. It deserves a club, doesn't it? :-)

Tell us about yours. How many do you have? Do you carry it everyday? Do you make some cool things with your Minichamp? What do you love about it? Do you hate it for some reason? How do you feel it could be improved? Show us some pics if you like :-)

I have a variety of MiniChamps in the collection, including 7 and 8 blade versions, alox, and Midnight MiniChamps.

However the Wenger Pocket ToolChest seems to fit my hand better and that's what sees occasional pocket time.

The Pocket ToolChest seems like a cool knife also, but I believe it has no Phillips screwdriver. Am I right? For me that makes a huge difference in any SAK, and I tend to avoid those models that don't include one.

That wenger knife is also a little bigger, isn't it? The Minichamp could be 1cm longer, in my  opinion. That would make it easier to grasp and would allow for a slightly longer blade. I find that the main blade is barely usable to cut fruit, for instance. That one centimeter could make a difference...

You're right, the Wenger doesn't include a Phillips. The Victorinox MiniChamp is 58mm long; the Wenger Pocket tool Chest is 65mm. Almost your 1 cm difference.

I have a standard Minichamp. I have always wanted a Alox Minichamp and actually bought a Silver Alox Classic to use the scales as a donor, but I don't wan't to have my Minichamp ripped apart. I might have to look for a donor Minichamp.

I think Microbe was prototype testing the clip. It's not officially available yet.

It's one of the TEC accessories clips (same manufacturer as the P7)

Wow.  The pictures in this thread are making me itchy for an Alox Minichamp!

I have an original minichamp (no bottle opener or phillips driver) that was on my keys for years, up until I got a Leatherman Micra (which was replaced by a Wenger Clipper...)

Yep, it is a TEC Python clip. Quality stuff, they always sell out quick when they are available.

Thanks. All my MiniChamps are standard Ibach production, factory mistakes included. There was no standard black alox MiniChamp run made yet as far as I know. All black alox ones seen here are customs. For cellidor black is no problem and in fact I do have at least one in black, painted over :)

Indeed, mine is a mod. I had the shield put on reversed to match bigger Alox versions, but I forgot to mention to check the keyring position. Now it is on the wrong side. Still, very impressed with the Minichamp. Small size, but a great tool! With it's multiple layers it really feels like a mini SAK.  :D I don't have that feeling with the Classic, or the Rambler Alox I have. This is my favorite 58mm model.

The small Scenics (mainly Classics) were reportedly done for an annual trade show in Basel. Scaled down versions of the standard Swiss Scenics.

Marius,

Great looking set of alox MiniChamps!  :tu:

Thanks, Karl

Nice Scenic ones do you have :tu:

Which reminds me that in fact the Cellidor painted ones that I shown here are not exactly as they came from factory, except the actual knives, the scales being from LE Classic series.

Who likes MiniChamps in plastic may want to consider dressing them up in fancy designer scales that often appear on Classics ::)

Think the green 7-blade in the first shot is factory; but the purple 8-blade is aftermarket (Central Valley IIRC)

Lovin' those green alox.
