I've been debating a mini champ. Do you all find the deduction of the tweezers and toothpick on the alox version a downside?

Sometimes yes and sometimes no  :dunno:

I just can't get over how minute it is compared to a medium sized SAK. Are the tools really that useful in EDC over day a huntsman or swisschamp?

I do think the tools are useful in the MiniChamp.  I haven't carried a 91mm in quite a few months now since the 58mm size has served me well in urban settings.
I often use the package opener, main blade, Phillips screwdriver, scissors, pen and white LED light (I have the Midnite MiniChamp).

It does the work, but it doesn't give the same feel as a 91mm or 84mm.  I don't feel as though I have enough handle, but that is the trade-off for me for toting something smaller around.

I usually open the cuticle pusher, ruler, or phillips tool to extend the handle when using some of the other tools.

I'm almost convinced to buy one. I've been after a larger Alox knife but want a nail file, large blade, can and bottle opener, awl and saw. A Phillips driver would be nice too.

Question...

How many is enough?
I'll be the first to admit that I may have a slight problem, but yesterday, I got upset when a MiniChamp got away from me, on eBay.

I've only got 8 - 10, though I may have miscounted.

I have issues choosing my EDC lol I feel like if I grab one, I'll be missing out on another. But I don't like carrying multiple of knives. The only time I break that rule is with my swisstool spirit & esee azula ii. Otherwise one pocket knife or one SAK

Can somebody post a comparison photo of the alox minichamp vs the cellidor with the pen/tweezers please? I almost pulled the trigger but can't find comparison photos. I like having the tweezers on me for the kids and the pen seems handy. I had the minichamp version without the Phillip's driver at one point. My uncle has an alox. I normally carry an esee izula ii, spyderco military or swisstool spirit with ratchet kit and corkscrew in a skinth pouch. I think this would compliment those if it isn't huge. My minichamp had toothpick and tweezers and was minus the Phillip's multitool but had everything else. That was literally the first knife I ever owned which I got at the age of 9.

:salute: I've never seen a Alox MC in person.  I would imagine the Alox does slim it down quite a bit vs celidor.  Not having the pen would also further reduce thickness.  Hope you are happy with it when it arrives.

A little late now answering if the 58s are useful.  While I wouldn't "compare" it to the larger SAKs 84 or 91mm it is a very useful size.  I see the 58s as complimentary to a larger tool however as FB says, hers is well suited for urban settings.  My 58mm SAK sits on my keychain and while it doesn't see daily use its sure nice to know its there.  It can handle a lot as I've sure pushed mine.  Those little scissors are no slouch and when the larger drivers of the bigger SAKs are a bit much the little drivers on the 58s truly shine.

I got the cellidor. My thinking was if I don't like the thickness I can change out the pen scale but it's nice to have a pen on me so I'll try it that way.

I've only got a couple of the MCs left, that I've left the pen on.  Got several that I've simply added another shield side on.  Several more that I did a complete swap, with themed scales.  2 with scales from Remade Knives, and then my Alox.

I really like some of the 58mm themed scales.  I just wish they were more permanent.

I’m wanting to join the club. I’m wanting an alox version though. Been watching for a nice, affordable black or red to pop up for sale.

Not interested in plain silver. I see some on eBay but priced a bit too high for me right now.

I’m in the exact same situation. I really wish that Vic would offer more than just standard silver on many of their alox offerings.

I am surprised at just how many times I use the white LED light on my Midnite MiniChamp.

I was at a restaurant and couldn't read the small menu items/prices, LED to the rescue.
I was at a hotel and needed to see my way in the dark, LED was right there handy.
Someone was showing me their A/C in a travel trailer, he couldn't read the dial, I said here, let me shine some light.
I hear chewing sounds under my desk, I use the light to see if what my dog is chewing is his own toy, or something he shouldn't have.

I used to use the light on my cellphone, but pressing the button on the MiniChamp scale is so much quicker and always handy.
Lately the LED and the main blade are my most used tools.   :hatsoff:

It doesn't take much light to see, just enough.  That seems to be Vic's trademark.  Great story Lisa!

Got my latest MiniChamp in, last week, and got around to swapping out the scales.
Honeycomb orange G-10 scales from Remade Knives.  These didn't fit as well as the black set, so I had to glue them on.
Been wanting to test out the Rhino glue that the wife bought me.  We'll see how it does.

I forgot how nice it is to have one of these in your pocket. I hadn't carried one in at least 18 years I believe. I pair it with a spyderco military cf/ti.

For me the biggest draw of the mini champ is the pen scale. I use it more than any other tool, except perhaps the toothpick.

Which reminds me... has anyone else replaced the tweezers for a toothpick? I almost never need tweezers, but a toothpick I need at least once a week - usually more.

Charles.

I love the pen, and use the tweezers in a pinch for tick removal
