Got me an early MultiPlier (Mr Pinchy)
on: October 18, 2013, 01:25:07 AM
I have become very intrigued with these MTs.  I have been looking for a Version 1 with the scissors and high polished finish and my search is over.  there are several things different with this MT verses the following versions other than the scissors and finish but for now just pictures.  Mine came with a wonky spring for the scissors but JSews mentioned in the Gerber ID thread that they were crude but I knew before hand the spring was faulty.  the pliers whips out lightening quick and smooth.

i'll post up a comparison of the different models I have because it appears much like the PSTs there seem to be transitional versions.

Yep, lots of variations as Gerber developed the multi-plier.  Some things I've noticed that changed along the way are (excluding the very first shiny Multi-plier which was different in lots of ways):
Plier Jaws
Plier pivot/bearing
Screws -> Rivets holding the sliding mechanism
Screws -> round nut for pivot for bottom tool components
Wide "Awl" (2 variations and then gone altogether)
[and I'm sure there are other changes that I've forgotten, and I'm too lazy to rat through my boxes to get the actual tools out and do a proper comparison right now   ::) ).

@Gregozedobe

I have 4 now and all have the plier pivot bushing but then they begin to differ from there.  Id love the hear more about your multi plier variations.  JSews has really helped me in sorting through the early ones but l have variations within those.  im mostly interested in the early models without locks, I may get interested at some point but for now I really like the early ones up to what JSews lists as verison 6.

@Detron YES I have been wanting one and missed out on the 1st production run.  now with all the subtle and not so subtle variations im excited to look for the early ones prior to version 6.

Possibly because it isn't the very early version of Mr Pinchy (but don't fell cheated out of something useful - they weren't regarded as being at all useful, which is ironic when you consider Fiskars took over Gerber)

Nice!  :tu:

I have been really thinking about tracking one of those down. If you decide to get rid of it or the other one you got at the Flea-market let me know.  ;)
