Would you buy a CE knife over a PE one?
on: October 19, 2013, 02:10:04 PM
I really want this knife . The only thing that stops me from
buying it is because of the half serrations of the blade.  This is a
branded knife and quite expensive. If it's a go from most
members, then I'll get it and post pictures asap. What do you
think?  Thanks

I don't even know what knife you're talking about but I think those part serrations might very well be a deal breaker to me. The only thing I like serrations on are my Utili-Key.

I wouldn't.

If you're buying an expensive knife especially. You shouldn't be making compromises if you're paying top dollar for it. I'd wait, another one will come along sooner or later. And in the right blade configuration.

I have a few combo edged blades and always wish they were plain edge. Or at least serrated edge. Not both on the same blade. It takes away more from the usability standpoint than it adds.

Others might disagree though.

No I wouldn't, I don't like serrations anyway, but if its not a cheapie, hold out and get the one you really want otherwise buyers guilt will bite you in the ass :D

Guys, I googled everything about this knife and I can't find any PE blade .
It's this knife I'm telling you about: It's around 130-150 dllrs (peso equivalent) here, brand new
and only one available in Manila.

That's a beauty   You got your work cut out for you finding a plain edge because that's been discontinued. I'm sure you could find it w/o the camo handle...

Sorry mate, personally I'd leave it alone unless I found the one I wanted. Example: I'd really like a Wenger Gawain, but if I saw the one that had the locking blade instead of the slippy, I wouldn't buy it

If that's the only option it comes in, you could try to remove the lock...

I am pretty much a PE guy, so basically any CE edge is a no-no to me.  Unless using something like a spydie sharpmaker, I just don't know how to or have the time to bother with sharpening a CE edge.

And I agree with Nikola, you shouldn't compromise for anything less if you are paying top dollars for a collection piece.

Not at all. I'd say forget about the camo and buy one of their many other models that's basically the same thing but a different colour handle.

I like CE for some applications , wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me . Then again I always carry a large SAK with a pen and 91mm blade .

I hate CE blades.  I either want all serrations or none depending on what I expect to use the knife for.

I would rather burn the bills into ash and be flogged with a rabid badger than spend $150 on a CE blade.

But then... I DON'T LIKE SEMI-SERRATED BLADES!

Nope, not a fan either.  I am not a fan of serations at all TBH but a CE is even worse. ;)

If it was me, I'd pass.  CE blades are the worst of both worlds IMO.....

If only this Griptilian has the plain edge blade, it'll be the holy grail of all my knives!
Unlike before I buy on impulse. I'm wiser now. :) Thanks to you. Thanks to MTO.

I find it irritating when an MT has both  SE AND CE blades !  >:(

I can understand a CE when you only have room for one blade, but if you have two blades then PE and CE is the proper way to do it (IMO).

I like combination edge knives.

it just depends on the knife.

I do think smaller knives with combo edge sometime suck.

edit

I got to say that camo combo edge grip is sweeeeeeeeeeeet

There are some companies with serrations I don't mind.  Kershaw and CRKT.  From those two I wouldn't mind CE blades.

Maybe you can just buy this one, another one with a PE black blade, and switch them, then sell the black one with the CE blade?
