Whistlin' Rambler?
on: October 21, 2013, 01:31:15 AM
I picked up a batch of 58mm parts knives on the 'bay and got 'em in today. Mostly Classics in various states of repair and an older model USB knife, but there was a rather unique looking one in the bunch. It's one with a whistle scale, but the tools are that of a Rambler/Manager (there's also a pen scale on the back). I haven't seen such a configuration before and the wiki doesn't show anything on it. I figure it's a mod or a scale swap. Anyone ever heard of such a knife? Here's a pic of it:

I should try find a black whistle scale for my keychain rambler

I never thought about it until I read this tread.

I could see it coming in handy.

Did they come in other colors? I only saw red ones. A black one would be cool. 8)

I've never seen them for sale anywhere but I seem to remember black /red /yellow whistle scales somewhere.

The original was a Classic SD with that whistle scale.

That's what I was thinking after searching the SAK wiki. Likely a rescale then...unless I somehow happened upon the ultra rare "Whistler's Rambler". I think that's what it is after all. Bidding will start at one million dollars (no emoticon for Dr. Evil, so imagine one here :P)

I'll keep it around. Maybe it'll be mod fodder, maybe it won't. One thing's for sure, it's quite dirty. No way that's going near my mouth without a thorough cleaning.

I have the whistle scales, but mine are on a seemingly original classic. Fairly rare in any case I believe.

Interesting.  We do see some non-standard items coming from the factory, normally bought by specific retailers, so don't dismiss this as a mod necessarily.  Cool little SAK however it came about. :tu:
