I was on the fence about getting a Rebar but now reading all this gives me the thought that Rebars are solid tanks that can handle many tasks

For value without compromise this is a tool to have available as long as you accept the operational limitations of all inside tools.

The replaceable cutters are awesome, so good that Wave advocates want them in their Waves. :pok:

The replaceable cutters is one of the things I like about them. The functions for the size and weight is killer as well.
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

Excellent thread.

Batween you and JAfroMa I am betting you sold 10000 Rebars for Leatherman.

Make that 10001 now.  :multi:

Now I just need to decide what scissor tool/SAK to carry with the Rebar.

Go SAK. Nothing beats having a Leatherman and a Victorinox on you.

Myself and a handful of others here have found the Compact to be the ideal companion to the Rebar. For the money it is worth testing our suggestion for yourself.

And you should get an Explorer and a Swiss Champ too while you are at it just because.

If you are looking for scissors, why not just keep it in the family and carry a Micra?

The Explorer is on my short list because of the Magnifying glass of all things. Got a eye infection on my last deployment and reading small letters is a issue sometimes.

SO is there a Compact without the Corkscrew bit? It seems to be something that is looked down on but I have no use for it, like never in my life.

Dang is this normal for this forum? We hav been going on about something way off the actual topic.

It is very normal HarleyXJGuy, and as a matter of fact, staying on topic is more the abnormality around here ;)  I don't think there is a Compact without the corkscrew.  It does hold the mini flathead driver though, if you would find that useful.  Others have mentioned more uses for it, and I almost think there was a thread about it a while back, but I'm not sure.

As to a Compact with a Phillips, there's this easy mod

I'm not the first to have done it,but it's a really handy toolset

149 pages of SAK mods?! With all the different models I would not think there is any need for such shenanigans. Course need and desire not the same.

Maybe just start out with a Classic. That one looks pretty small and it gots some scissors. I got a bad feeling it will be some kinda gateway SAK.

I know right?  You wouldn't think there'd be much need/demand for custom SAKs, but that is not the case...at least around here ;)  My normal EDC SAK is a custom.  Sometimes one just likes slight tweaks or whatnot to a stock model.  As for the Classic - you are indeed correct that it may be a gateway SAK.  Heck, who are we kidding?  Whatever your first SAK is, it will end up being a gateway SAK >:D

A Compact with a phillips mod would be a very nice thing to have. Of course then I have to buy another SAK so I could harvest the phillips out of it.

Next thing you know I have to buy one of them Alox metal handle ones and I am kinda curious about the whole Swisschamp thing...... :climber:

Yep, he's already down the rabbit hole.

Get the Classic.

But also get the Explorer. Check with the seller and make sure the mag lens is glass.  Buy from Feline Vet.

Next you'll need a Cadet and a Farmer.

Then go ahead and get the Compact.

From there you wanna go Swisschamp, then OHT, then Outrider, then one of the Rangers.

And you'll need a Huntsman and a Ranger.

A one hand Sentinel with a pocket clip is a must have as well.

After that you'll be looking at Cybertools, colored alox, and saks with things like marlin spikes.

But don't get too crazy there. By that time you'll need your money for the Syph custom you have been dreaming of with orange anodized scales,  brass liners, and only the tools you now know you really want.

As for corkscrews. . Start drinking wine. Also good for untying knots.

You should drink more anyway now.  Then you'll have something else to blame when you find yourself broke and buried in Victorinox.

Did I mention you need a Spirit? Yeah.. you need a Spirit.

This is a quite thorough plan you've got laid out for him there... Although, I think he should go for an Evo S52 in the early stages (they won't get any cheaper) and a Minathor (more available than the Fix-IT and the SGT and lots of fun to play with). Also, you forgot the soldiers, all generations

Syph custom?

Soldier sounds like a good buy since that is what I am. Not the Swiss Army though.

Didn't know they had one with a pocket clip. Got to get one of them to hang with my Spyderco rotation.

  sigh.

Hmm ok so I am going to need a urban pioneer with black scales or maybe blue. Prolly best to just get both.

Something with cap lifter, can opener, knife and scissors.

Oh can't forget one with a pocket clip.

Ti scales! Yes please.

Will need to make some customs from all the left over parts.

The good news: instead of disappearing because things were super tough, I disappeared because things were going super well.

The bad news: I am obviously the deadbeat dad of this challenge thread, which is kind of a bummer. I'm making my unofficial abandonment of this challenge thread official, if only because it makes me feel better about it.

The other good news: my Rebar is still my in-the-satchel multi-plier tool. That's something, right?

Sorry, guys.
