I think Leatherman could package up their floor sweepings and some of us would buy them.

So, how much for the Croc by itself?

 Too true  ::) Every other company seems to come in for fair criticism, but LM seem to have an army of supporters who will whoop and cheer everything that comes out of those doors no matter how good or bad. It's unhelpful for newcomers as it's difficult to glean a true appraisal for a tool sometimes (how good is it really?), and one of the primary reasons I am more sceptical and critical of their releases than anyone else's.

I'm there with you Al.  Fanboyism kind of annoys me and I think I've proven that with my complaints about every manufacturer.  I think every tool needs to be judged on its individual merits not what name is printed on the side.

well stated,

I think the vast majority of the problem is typical fanboyism, but I do think sometimes it is unintentional.  If someone had a bad experience with one tool, they seem to create a stigma that has to be overcome before they can honestly evaluate another tool by that manufacturer.

basically like if you ever got sick after drinking "fill in the blank alcoholic beverage" , you tend to avoid it, even if it was dinner that made you sick.  over time people may go back to that beverage, but the stigma must be overcome.

The piranha is much cooler looking but I think this is a much better tool. The bits on those one piece tools aren't effective. This may be my favorite one piece tool.
I went and got one. There is no carabiner.

thanks for the info,  if you still have the package, can you tell me if it says it has the carabiner?
either they left it on by mistake, or I imagined it.  I was in a hurry,

Nope, it doesn't mention the carabiner. It says something about detachable clip.

That is definitely a half a$$ed Piranha.  And I hope/pray that the CROC was done at Home Depot's insistance

Sadly it was not,  I called Leatherman, and it is a new item.  Promotional item currently, but will be sold individually in the future

I just got back from Home Depot. I had a hard time finding them. The employees I asked did not know they had them. Most Home Depot's I've been to are set up the same. When entering the store, turn right, toward the garden center. They are along the front wall with many boxes of gift packaged tools.

I'm not a big fan of the Sidekick, but it is one of the last LM's I need to complete my collection.

Now i'm really mad.

After my last visit to Home Depot looking for the Sidekick/Croc I said I was going to save my money for something else. I should of listened to myself. I checked online at a different Home Depot and they said they had 50+ in stock. It was a bit out of the way, but I said screw it and decided to go. I got there and was left walking around like a smurfing idiot for 20 minutes until I asked someone about it. He tried to get someone on the phone in hardware and after 3 calls and 3 announcements over the intercom no one ever answered and I was now left standing there looking like an idiot again deciding if I should just wait longer or walk out of there. Well I walked out more pissed off than ever. I knew I shouldn't of wen't.

Might just pony up the extra $12-$15 dollars and buy a BO Rebar. Might make me feel better.
