Greg, when did Gerber introduce the actual 600?  1998?

I wish I'd followed that philosophy some 1,450 MTs earlier, it would have saved me an awful lot of money & time.
Not an oops if you enjoy them.  I have too many myself, but I have a hard time parting with them to make the collection more manageable, so another pep talk I had with myself was just to enjoy and not stress over too many, too much money, etc.

Yep, those MP600s with Grey locks are quite rare.   :salute:  :hatsoff:

Most of mine are are marked as "First Production Runs", although I do have one that isn't.
FPR grey lock, sounds awesome!

Sorry Barry, I don'r know when Gerber started making the 600 series.  Unfortunately Gerber didn't date stamp their MTs.  I know that they initially called the tool a "Multi-Lock"  (presumably because they had added locks for the components), then later started calling it  the "Multi-Plier" (MP600).

For me it seemed to be the "thrill of the hunt" and buying a rarity, more so that the actual owning afterwards.

I haven't bought any "new to me" MTs for ages, in fact now I'm moving more to considering the release phase of a "Catch & Release" program, but my inherent laziness and shipping costs are so expensive it has put me off from actually marketing anything.

I found out about the Gerber Multi-plier by accident.  I was looking for some Leatherman PSTs when a guy had a tool that he claimed was a Leatherman Gerber.  It piqued my interest and it turns out it was a Gerber V5 Multi-plier.  Loved the sliding plier design from then on.

No problem Greg.  I remember them when I was in the US Army back in the late 90's, which was when I first encountered the Gerber tool but I can't remember if they were 600's.  I had a Vic Huntsman then, and later a SOG Powerlock.  I'm with you on the release phase of my collection.  I thin the herd as I go along, only holding onto the ones that really interest me.  I'm having fun diversifying from SAKs to Gerbers and SOG right now, but I'm not going nearly as crazy as I did before.  It's more for fun now , and a lot more relaxing seeing the neat tools others are finding.

Just picked up a black oxide Truss NXT at Home Depot for $25.00 it was open package, possibly returned, but looks pristine.  I'm heading out for the weekend and will take a picture when I get back.

I said it was a Truss but I meant it was a Suspension.  Here is the pic I promised and a bonus pic of the Suspension and tea in my hotel room yesterday morning.

Need help with my recent "mp600"!!!  :dunno: :ahhh
It was sold as an mp600 but, looking closer, it resembled a Multi Lock Scout (predecessor of the Pro Scout). However, all images and pictures I have found (which aren't much, by the way), show a diamond grit file, Fiskars branded scissors, and nail nicks instead of cutouts on blade and file. Is this a warranty/repair, a rare unit, or something cobbled up? It appears almost unused. What you all think?

That is an interesting find Juan.  :tu:
I have a Multi Lock Scout in box and it has the nail nicks, diamond grip file (on one side) and Fiskars branded on the scissors as you point out.
Yours looks great and I wonder if it is a tool that was factory assembled after the Multi Lock but before the MP600.
Looking forward to what others think.

Thanks Lisa, for the compliment; your pictures were some of the ones I used as reference! Hoping to see some more feedback.

Edit- mine came in an exact sheath match to yours but, maybe it was replaced. No Simonds branding either.

I believe there was a model called the Pro, or the Contractor (or some combination such as Contractor Pro) that was the same as the Pro-scout, but without the saw blade holder or the RemGrit saw blade.  I saw one on ebay about a month ago during our MP600 challenge.

Thank you for the info., Alan, I'll look into it. I know that the one with just the awl is a "Sporstman", and another similar to this without the awl is the "Woodsman"; this last one comes as part of the Maintenance Kit (OSIR).

Barry, thanks for the compliment but, it already has a good home!!! :D

Juan, you've probably seen this info, right?
Takes about 15 seconds for it to load on my computer.

Thanks Lisa for the info. but, yes I had. From that's why I thought it was an edition from your series but alas, no such luck. I'm beginning to think its a cobbled up one to copy the OE Multi lock. I still like it alot, as if thats the case, sat almost unused after such effort and work. :hatsoff:
