Not a multitool, but it's a Gerber!

A Gerber Propel with a 420HC blade. I liked the S30V version so much I decided to get this one too and make it my beater blade. I've used it a fair bit lately and I really love it. You'd be surprised how useful a blade with tanto tip and partial serrations can be as a utility knife. I've used it a lot lately to help cut and install windbreak paperboard at my parents summer house.

I don't know if that was sarcastic or not. But yeah, let's call this 80 dollar assisted fighting knife with tanto tip and serrations my "utility knife".  :D But hey, that's how I use it. Today is Christmas and I used it to cut cardboard boxes to size, to fit the presents I had to wrap.

What are you going to make?

If you have extra parts let me know.   :D. I'm specifically interested in the Blunt nose pliers and blades if you do not use them.  :salute:

I'm going to see what I can do with my MP400 as soon as there's time, and I also have a 600 Pro Scout in the mail which I plan to mod a bit. I've got another MP600 (BN) so I figure in the end I'll have 3 functional 600s and one empty set of handles.

Edit: Not sure what I'll have left over yet, since I haven't completely decided what to do, and some of the implements in the pile are broken.

My latest Gerber is a MP600 I absent mindedly bid on - I only realized the PO modded it with lock picking inserts after I won the auction...
I am undecided wether to keep it for it´s novelty character, dismantle it for parts or just pass it on to someone who would get soem use out of it.

it cam with a self made Bit adaptor and bits, too.

Sounds like an interesting mod, if it's well done. Can we see some pics of that and the custom bit adapter?

On a somewhat related note, I've considered getting into lockpicking as a hobby, but with the situationally  questionable legality it may not be a great idea. My car trunk and EDC bag already look like a burglar's kit, or worse

As far as I know lock picking as a hobby is perfectly legal. Carrying lock picking tools outside your home is not. Now to be completely honest I have not really looked into the laws on this, but it is just what I remember from years ago. I need to do some legal research to see if you can carry those tools outside your home. Its the same with tools to unlock cars. I do not believe you can carry those unless you are a tow truck driver or similar. I could definitely be wrong though.

EDIT: Here is the law for CA.

Penal code - 466-469

http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=pen&group=00001-01000&file=466-469

Basically you can own and have them with you as long as you are not intending to use them in a crime. Other "burglary tools" listed are hammers, pliers, and screwdrivers, so anything can be considered a burglary tool. Its all about how they perceive your intentions.

This is only for CA. Check your own local laws.  :tu:

Right you are, Cap. My issue is just the "as long as you're not planning to commit a crime with them" part. It's a bit vague usually, and ill-defined laws are the ones that most often bite law-abiding citizens in the rear, from my observation. And of course if I learn to pick locks, I'd want to have a set around for emergency situations. You never know, picking a lock could save someone's life. Hopefully my pry bars, axes, and hammers (I have quite a few of each scattered about) can stand in if the situation ever arises  ;)

Have you had a chance to use the Gator yet? I've been curious about it for a while and would like to hear opinions.

No, not yet.  I was going to try it out on some brush in the backyard, but we ended up getting a foot of snow, so haven't made it back there yet.  I also haven't been offroading since getting it, and the next run is on a pretty open trail, so won't need to use it. :(

I'll be going to a home brewed bladeless at some point, but I want a blunt nose with the standard non-replacable cutters to do it with
