Nuclear Blast
on: December 01, 2016, 03:53:20 PM
OK, i got my arse tickled on an e-Bay purchase not so long ago. Seems that LM Blast i bought was not in as great condition as i was lead to believe. The Spanish seller failed to mention that the small screwdriver was missing (not the glasses one, the small rigid one, number 12 in the diagram). It had snapped off at the pivot end. So i get a partial refund after a quite a struggle and i now have a less than mint Blast. Life throws you lemons, i'm a lemonade man so i think it's a great modding project.

My thoughts are heading towards fitting a large bit carrier if i can get hold of one. If i can that will mean i'll still have a large flat and large cross point. Does the hive mind think this is excessive in the screwdriver department and, if so, what could i replace the other screwdrivers with? I'm just taking the opportunity to have a play and maybe stumble across the ultimate, low cost, bespoke Leatherman!

The Blast is an awesome tool with quite a good toolset :like:

Sorry to hear they didn't tell the entire condition but good you got a partial refund

I know the bit driver will fit but what will have to come out besides the broken driver I am not sure

I would check in loki-mobiles thread in this link and see what he has for sale part wise and if it isn't showing then just message him :tu:

http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,61708.0.html

He is great to deal with and reasonable with his prices plus he has wrenches made that make taking apart LM so much easier for modding :like:

Also check in the LM forum and the Mod Squad for ideas on how you might want to mod it as well by searching for Blast mods

Good luck with your mod and don't be shy about asking for help :tu:

No hive mind here (this isn't reddit!). Like Poncho mentioned, another tool would have to come out to add a large bit driver (It is the same thickness as the Phillips Driver). Maybe removing the eyeglass driver and a washer/lanyard loop would work, or maybe remove the blade too and you will have a very robust bladeless multitool. You might also be able to squeeze an Awl from a Rebar in that space. More likely than not you will need to move stuff around between both handles to get it to fit.

Thanks for the replies peeps, i've already dropped Loki a message (and posted in the thread). I got some tools from him last week and manged to use them already. I don't really want to lose the blade but yeah, i'd be happy to move things around between the handles to see what fits. Losing a one piece screwdriver would not be an issue as i'd have the bit holder and losing the lanyard ring would not be a great loss. We'll see what i can get hold of and have a play!

Love the Blast but the one thing it's missing is an awl. I would give up the eyeglass bit holder for an awl. In fact that might be my next mod

I put together my attempt at a Wave/Rebar combo a couple weeks ago with both a 3D Phillips and a large bit driver, kept the large flat driver as well.  I like the reach of the non-bit-driver phillips, prying ability of the flat, and I keep a 4mm Hex bit in the driver (which is used a lot around my house), as well as carry a bit card with other options.

Really getting on board with the ask idea Steve, great suggestion. I think I've seen your Wave/Rebar combo on another thread Eddie, that looks great. In fact it was seeing it that inspired me to go for the but holder Mod with this. Thanks fellas!  :salute:

I toss 3D Phillips add Long Bits Holder to pocket clip.. got Flat head and Phillips drive
