Wash your hands and wipe dry before using your multitools.

If he doesn't like fingerprints, imagine how he'd feel about scratches in a black finish!

Keep a duster/soft cloth nearby and just give it a wipe when your finnished . But surely you cant be worried about it when your out and about EDCing it while your on duty . If I remember rightly your a Policeman arent you ? Just wipe it down at the end of the day or when youve finnished handling one of your collection .

Yes I am! But it doesnt bother me that much, like everytime I use it or anything I don't have to get the prints off- its basically just a turn-off!

If you've got fingerprints on the tool and they don't come off with cloth wiping, you might try a product called Nev-R-Dull. It's a naptha-impregnated cloth wool that is a superb metal polish that's very non-abrasive. You may already be aware of it, but I thought I'd pitch it anyway. I've used it to polish multitools, clean and polish guitar frets, clean unlacquered metal dobro bodies and cymbals as well as candlesticks and the lot. It WILL take bluing off guns and similar-finished items (and remove cymbal labeling) and will remove lacquer off lacquered brass and silver instruments and items, so be careful there. Also, the cleaner in the wool removes the natural oils from wood, so if any of you use it on instruments, take care to keep it off the wood and instrument finish(I use a draftsman's line eraser guard which is a metal plate with a fine slot cut out). I think Wal-Mart carries it, as well as some home improvement stores and it's not too expensive. you just pinch a bit of wool, polish the item, them wipe clean with a cloth (it does smell a bit while you're using it).

Good Luck, Bill.

I had a new semi-custom blade, and one day I was chopping away and later that night I went to clean it, and sure enough their was a black fingerprint of mine on it, like I played in tar and held the blade, I tried everything, wouldn't come out, then I thought; "it gives it character!" my own -FingerPrint- on it! it's me! (what else could I think!)

Run your tools through the dishwasher on a regular basis. You can't imagine the changes in shade and tint that a freshly washed tool has. Black oxide tools actually look more of a graphite color when all the finger/production oils are removed.

Don't buy a Victorinox Spirit!  You'll spend all your time wiping the fingerprints off the polished surface of the handles.

By the way while wiping my multitool I can't keep myself from uttering MY PRECIOUS all the time. Is that normal?
