Canberra PR9.

Bugger! I didn't know there were any PR9s still airworthy, let alone in private hands! Super cool

Several of NASA's RB-57F's have flown missions over Afghanistan, probably as communications relay points.  NASA actually pulled an RB out of storage from the boneyard where it had been for over 40 years and returned it to flight status only a few years ago.  I know, they're not PR9's, but they're still Canberras........

You know the old joke about the Tornado, originally called the MRCA?

The RAF thought it stood for Must Refurbish Canberra Again

It's a scary thought...if there's BUFFs still in service in 2046, that'll be one hundred years since the contract was first issued!

Saying that,at work the other day,one of our Romanians asked what the airplane(model) with three engines was. It was a KLM MD11,but he'd never heard of the Boeing 727.

Saying that, there's another kid(a Brit this time!) who didn't know there's a civilian version of the KC135. Talk about things that make you feel old

Comments like those don't occur with my family.  For example, while on vacation last month, my stepbrother, two brothers, and myself were in a lively, at times heated discussion at 2am while sitting in the heated pool.  The topic?  Whether HMS Hood and the Japanese Kongo-class were battlecruisers or fast battleships.   Bunch of nerds, I tell ya......

Huey.

This is a restored UH1H, and is based in Preston, NW England. I was up there last Saturday taking some photos and video.

This pic was taken by a friend, I've just aged it a little.

I got to see an RAF Airbus A400M today.  At first I only saw the tail, and thought it was a C17.  When I got closer, I noticed the props, and though "Wait a minute.....".  It's not too much smaller than the C17, and quite a bit bigger than a Herc.

Not my pic, but this shows the C17, Herc and A400M.

I have a strange phobia.  I like to fly in aircraft, but I am very nervous about being at heights (other than aircraft).  I've flown in commercial aircraft a lot in my life and never had an issue, however tall buildings, riding gondolas, suspension bridges and similar structures makes my knees go weak.  People tell me my phobia is a fear of falling.

I took an acrobatic fight in a Stearman aircraft (the red one) a few years ago.  It was a "white knuckle" ride, especially during loops and barrel rolls and my eyes were not open much during the stunts.  But I would do it again.  When we were not doing acrobatic stunts and flying level, it was a complete joy to fly.

I work very close to Newark Airport.  Sitting outside in the last 15 minutes aside from the usual Boeings and smaller Airbuses I've seen a FedEx DC-10 and a Lufthansa A340 taking off.

I was RAF Valley on Tuesday, mainly to try to get some shots of the Sea King SAR Squadron in its operational environment. After many years service, the Sea King is being phased out of service. Really struck lucky, got plenty of shots of the Sea Kings, as well as Hawk trainers and the Red Arrows.

Battlecruisers. :)  Their horizontal protection was inadequate, and their vertical protection also suffered in the attempt to gain more speed.  Hiei was basically sunk at close range by US cruisers at Guadalcanal.  Aircraft just delivered the coup de grace.
