Finally figured it out
on: December 20, 2006, 09:04:15 PM
I now know of an excellent way to get into those damned clamshell packs!  This is an amazing discovery, and I had to share it with everyone!

It's actually pretty simple- get a Leatherman Vista or Hybrid!  I just got a Hybrid today (watch for a review coming soon!) and it cuts through clam packs quite effectively!

I found this out after spending 20 minutes trying to cut open the clam pack (and not cut open my fingers!) with a SAK.  Those big, powerful shears are great at slicing through the plastic packaging, and less liklihood of wearing your favorite knife to the emergency room!

That there is as good of reason as any to get me one, I'll be linking this thread to the wifes email :)  I know I am getting tired of keeping Band-Aid in business opening those dang blasted things.

My favorite general-purpose cutter is the Sears Compound Leverage Snip

It cuts through everything really well.  I'd rather have a LM Vista, but this is what I use now.

I know what you mean.  At least twice I was almost in need of band aids, and once I was almost in need of a yamaka!  :o

Glad to see you appreciate sophisticated humor! :P

Seriously, this is one sizeable tool too.  It's great for folks who just think that the Surge is just a tad small for their comfort.

Again with the right handed-ness!  It just occurred to me that the release button for the lock that keeps the pruning blades shut is only on one side, and set up for righties.  There doesn't appear to be any reason not to have it on both sides making it ambidextrous.

What does Leatherman have against lefties?  What did you guys do to him?

Yah, same thing on the Vista. I have to poke at the release button with my index finger in order to release it.

IT'S DISCRIMINATION I TELL YA'!
