SGT Wengers
on: November 10, 2013, 09:09:05 PM
As you may have noticed I've been doing some edits on the wiki. Currently I'm having a few problems with the SGT Wengers.

I have a few questions about them. Hopefully someone here can help me out.

First, the SGT Fix-It. Some are listed as Fix-it and some Fix-it Plus. What's the difference? I don't see any. Is it the addition of the replacement tool kit as on the Shortix Plus?

Also, there's a catalog listing for the Fix-It Pro. No model number on it, there's only a "on request" reference in the catalog. It's based on a MiniGrip. Anyone own one of these or has a better picture of it?

Thanks for the help.

There is no difference between the Fix-It and Fix-It Plus.
I think I have the Fix-It and the tools configuration is exactly the same.
The difference being only the "Plus" word on the scale.
Will check later to confirm, but I should be quite correct.

As for the Fix-It Pro the one from the catalog is the only image I have ever seen

Just going from the pictures then they are different when it comes to the pliers.

SGT: Non-folding pliers
SGT-Plus: Fold out pliers
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

You are comparing the Shortix Plus and Fix-it. My question was about the Fix-it and Fix-it Plus.

Thanks for the confirmation, Basilio. :salute:

Took few pictures.
I believe the model number on the wiki (took from Gim's picture) could not be the catalog number.
I'm attaching the box label on mine.
As you can see the knives are the same (well, at least I was not able to see any difference).
Can't see from Gim's pictures if his model as the "WENGER" name embossed on the front scale, like on mine.

I tried zooming in and think there is no Wenger like on the new scales in Gim's pictures.

Does anyone know why the empty layer? Which tools can be added there?

I found a link that Gim gave me some time ago with more pictures of his Fix-It Plus
http://rusknife.com/topic/7239-редкие-модели-wenger/
As you can see his model has the scissors with the screw.
In my model they have the rivet.
So I'm thinking (but I'm not sure) that this knife was probably called in the beginning Fixt-It Plus and later the name was changed to Fix-It...but it is just a speculation.
As for the empty layer, I think that every removable tool (like the ones found in the shredder or bycicle model) should fit.
SGT was probably planning to add an additional removable tool (wrench like?), or they were just giving the option to the user to store an additional one.
Again, just a speculation on my part.
Unfortunately no manuals were ever provided for this knife. When I asked SGT through the supplier (because they simply won't answer your emails), they said, through the supplier, that the Shortix Plus manual should be enough also for this knife.
When I pointed that (not even considering the possibility of a customer to buy only one knife) the tools were in part completely different, I got no answer..... :D

Karl sent me this document from which I made the screenshots in the first post:

http://www.docstoc.com/do...ientific-Glass-Technology

On the 7th page of it there's a list of all available tools and variations. They have an extended tool kit and standard replacement tool kit listed there. I think the empty layer could be for those tools.

Enki,
it is a possibility.
However I think that the only replacement toolkit listed for the Fix-It (not the Fix-It Pro) (S0051) is just the three removable tools found in the Bergeon black plastic layer, as it says "3 tools" in the Shortix section with the same number S0051.
The Shortix does not have an empty layer, so I don't have any idea about what is the S0042 extended Toolkit.
Perhaps the US importer could be more "friendly" than the SGT and answer the question.

I am terribly sorry to bring up such an old thread.

I have come up recently with a Wenger GS Buddy in pristine as new condition that has 2 peculiar properties:
1) The color is not the Blue (like that of regular SGT Shortix plus) but some kind of 'navy blue'
2) It did not had empty layer and had 2 removable items: wrench with small screwdriver and 10mm hexagonal wrench with screwdriver for slotted and Philips head screws.
I know that regular red-scaled Fix-It plus must have an empty layer, I have it in my collection like SakWiki has it. But this Blue GS Buddy came fully loaded. It had only the standard Wenger paper inside the pouch, not related to SGT.

I compared the 10mm hex wrench with that of Biker series and it is fully identical. I wonder if this a factory fit tool and if somebody ever saw anything instead of the empty layer. The seller was far from SAK world.
