It's a beast of a hunk of steel, I find the handle comfortable. You are right about the sheath Tony, like all my other Condors the sheath is superb and puts many other expensive brands sheaths to shame.

So far Condor haven't let me down and though there prices have increased a bit over the last few years that seems to be coming with innovation

Well, this is it, folks... I finally did it...  :mail:

So, the postman was kind enough to bring THIS one in...

 :o  :ahhh

Ooo, what is it I hear you ask...

Lo and behold! Varusteleka Terävä Skrama is here!

That smurfing thing is huge... The handle is like 1 1/2 hand grip, and I have shovels for hands :P

Description:
Skrama - as in Scramasax or Seax, a short, single edged sword popular in the Middle Ages. Much like the Scandinavian Leuku it doubles up as a tool and weapon.
A fine name is always nice and the best ones are those with some history behind them - our 21st century Skrama would surely meet the demands of any Saxon
man from "ye good  olde days".

Some specs:
    Total length: 430 mm.
    Weight: 525 g (knife only).
Blade: length 240 mm, width 46 mm, thickness 4,2 mm.
Edge: 34° for chopping, 25° at the base for finer work.
Steel: Carbon steel 80CrV2, 59 HRC
Grip: Moulded rubber, rough texture for a good grip.

Mine's not of any account, so I won't bother taking a picture. Just an 18" standard Latin pattern Tramontina that I've put through its paces in the rare times I have a chance to use it.

My ugly Tramontina in its adoptive rural Kentucky habitat.
I redid the edge, rounded off the handle a little, filed the handle half of the blade square for scraping and the tip half round for use as a draw knife, and rounded off the tang of the blade where the edge stops so I can choke up for finer work if I need to. Aside from that all I really ever do with it is hit it with a file or a coarse stone when it goes dull and use the snot out of it.
The X burned into the handle is my mark, which I put on my tools if they are in a position to get loaned out so I can identify mine from others', and as a point of pride in the tools I modify (I don't put my mark on it unless I'm happy with it).

I make similar adjustments to my ones as well. There are probably pics back a page or two if you are interested.

So not a standard Tramontina at all.  :D  Very nice mate and the work sounds well worth doing.

Bah, took half an hour with a medium file. No big deal. Just making it functional for what I needed. Thanks though!
