Well, I'd love owning a Skinth... But until then, I like the nylon pouch that came with the Wave... Some nice space for extra's, and I can carry it horizontally, which I've started to like a lot :)

I agree horizontal is the way to go!

I had Eric make mine with thick nylon horizontal belt straps sewn in for primary carry of my skinth xL

I like the Leatherman Wave nylon sheath as well. I like the way you can carry the tool with the pliers open, it's very handy when fishing. I usually just tuck the flap behind the sheath when fishing for quick access.

Nylon 4,5'' sheath For the Surge.

Molle is too bulky and lacks compartments;
Leather sheath impossible to horizontal carry and lacks capacity for saw blades and bit kit;
Mazpedition molle nylon pouch is very nice but lacks all the compartments and the tool is not fully enclosed which in some situations can be too "tactical".

Only problem with the Leatherman sheath is that it goes soggy after a while, my surge is with me 24/7 in work and as EDC so I pretty much have 1-2 sheaths as spares from ebay because they need replacing every few months.

Great sheath. I also like the Nite Ize multi tool stretch holster.

My answer to this is...depends.

If I am around home doing yard work etc, the best sheath is the Molle XL one. I can hold my ST300, bit kit, small flashlight, pen/pencil and spare batteries easily.

At work, I wear 'business attire' so I actually prefer the leather box style sheaths as it doesn't look too out of place. Wearing the Rebar in its leather sheath works well in this situation. However, the box sheaths aren't as practical to wear in some ways- I find they get caught on things easier and tend to dig in to me more if I sit wrong.

The nylon sheath that came with my wave is probably the best compromise of all of the above. It's comfortable, reasonably compact and yet still holds my wave, bit kit and bit driver extension. One thing I had to modify though was the side elastic loop that holds the it driver extension- it was too loose and the driver extension could easily fall out. A few stitches through the elastic sorted that out.

Leatherman don't yet make a 'perfect' sheath as far as my preferences go, but that's okay- I just use different ones for different situations  :D

I am wondering about the Molle sheath in large (rather than the XL that I already have). Is it that much smaller?

I prefer the old black leather snap sheath. The newer leather sheaths are good also.

To add to the confusion my Leatherman Fuse is in a Gerber MP400 sheath and my MP400 is in a Leatherman Blast sheath and my Blast is in a ST300 sheath.  :think:

I own a few dozen of them.  The old leather ones were great.  I still love the black nylon sheath from my original WAVE the best though.

If I'm not using the pocket clip on my Wave/Charge and wear it on my belt I have been using my Maxpedition Single sheath. It feels the most secure, but is not the most comfortable. It is very interesting all the different ways people mix and match MTs with other sheaths to try and get the perfect fit.
