Christmas ideas under $20 (help wanted)
on: December 01, 2013, 11:20:55 PM
Happy holidays everyone. I am looking for an edc solution that will fit basic needs you can fit in a pocket. It needs a knife, scissors, and decent quality for the money. Brand loyalty is not much of an issue. Thanks for the help.
When In doubt, C4

Victorinox Midnite Manager.  $15.99

I was gonna say that :P Or well, Rambler and Manager are great options, as well.

I think it's also quite possible to find Leatherman Micra's for under 20$, or maybe the Gerber Dime.

This week's Bass Pro Shops ad has the Buck X-tract and the Gerber Dime on sale each for 19.99.

I recently bought a victorinox silvertech climber for $14 off amazon. Nothing beats Victorinox quality or usefulness.

I think they were having one of their super low temporary deals to draw in customers. Ebay is also a good place to look.

Target had a Huntsman and sheath combo for $23 last time I was there about a week ago.  Actually cheaper than the Style CS, which was $28......

I've heard that it is a generic chinese sheath though, and the huntsman doesn't fit in

Ah, didn't know that.  Still, $23 for a Huntsman isn't bad at all, cheaper than both the Tinker and Climber they also had.

My vote is for Victorinox Recruit. It doesn't have scissors but the second smaller blade can handle cutting that scissors could. I got mine for $15 at Lowes. Very basic and minimal design but it has never failed any task I threw at it.
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

Almost any used SAK on Ebay...
Buy them by the bucket full.
I've not had anyone mad at me for giving them a used SAK. Not once... I did clean oil and sharpen them though.

If it must be new... I don't know. I have a few ideas, but I'm not sure they will fit the criteria.

Buy a used lot of SAKs and save money.
They literally last a life time so buying new isn't an issue.

Could you get a Vic Ambassador for that money?  Sorry, not really up to speed on the US Vic prices.

I think so, particularly if you bought several and were able to combine shipping.

There are a number of the basic one- or two-layer Vic knives that would meet the requirements and be under the $20 limit.
