NEW Leatherman SURGE owners club.
on: November 29, 2013, 01:10:42 AM
Well it's in the open now so somebody have to do it.
Just got mine in the post (actually a letter with custom charges and address where I can collect my baby) :mail:.
I was so concern that Leatherman will miss the opportunity to iron out all the small problems and we will have to deal with all those annoying things for another 8 years. But they did it right. Old Surge had that rough, unfinished and unpolished feel to it. This one is really solid and smooth. Everything fits tight without anything sticking out, especially the smooth closing without jamming or slamming shut pinching the flesh of your palm.
If you don't care about the new implements just get it for the improved ergonomics, it really is in line with MUT and Charge rather than Wingman/Sidekick.

Not many people have it yet so this would be a good topic to collect all the info/videos/thoughts we have on this new tool (merge some topics maybe).
Guess what's under my pillow tonight :)

One more thing from me, highly recommended and works like a charm. Can be done with surges own file:

Give it time. It's still a new tool and isn't available worldwide yet. Considering how many people were joining the forum and asking for those it's gonna grow.

Yeah Matt, that's what I was going to say.  Over here in The Colonies, I haven't seen one of the new Surges yet.  Maybe a handful are floating around, but they are not widely available.

I know I know, but we do have at least two other owners here on the forum (in other old surge) threads. At the moment this topic looks like "new surge 300"...

I guess I should join one of these "owners club" threads eventually... this one seems like a good place to start. :)

I had my new Surge with me for most of the holiday weekend. Nothing really "heavy duty", but he did help with putting up Christmas lights on two houses, cutting down our Christmas tree, and some other small jobs around the house/yard. so far, I'm very pleased with the fit & finish on this tool. it seems to be a cut above the ST300/Rebar, and more in line with the Wave/Charge (which makes sense).

I'll try to get some pics soon. Oh, and a hacksaw blade or something to try out in the new blade exchanger. :D

It's big, beefy and looks like it would eat my PST for breakfast  :multi:

I'm not a big fan of this style sheath though- would actually have preferred the nylon one. Don't suppose anyone would like to swap?

If any other Aussie is keen to pick one up, here is the seller:

Highly recommended.

Hmmm...weird. I tried to buy one from an American eBay seller. He clearly stated that he shipped to Canada. However, when I went to buy it, it told me he wasn't allowed due to shipping restrictions. I can only hazard a guess this is Leatherman's heavy handed restrictions again. I figure they must hate Canadians.

Ah well I can only hope that it will jump the border sometime in the future.

I suddenly wonder... Did Leatherman also get rid of the wobble in the removable pocketclip on the Surge?

Mine's actually worse!  Really.  I don't really care anymore...in that I went 'round with LM on that and it was clear they'd decided [as explained to me] that it was a safety issue -- and they weren't about to change it.  Safety - as in something like...the tool getting caught as you're coming down a ladder or a tree...and would give way - so as to not have the user jammed up, not able to get down.  You know - pfft - whatever.

I'm still very anxious to get this hack review up.  I really want to do it right - and in order to do so, need to clear some of my workbench off [read: storage depot from hell].  The light seems to be best there, blah-blah...blah-blah.  Then there's my basement.  FIFTY years of someone else's inherited crap.  Speaking of crap, anyone know where I can locate a basement enema kit?!  He...he...he...ahem... ::) >:D

HEY - anyone know anything about original arcade video games [that don't work video-wise] like - say a "Pac-Man".  That's how the whole basement thing started - someone in the family wants the Pac-Man...now it doesn't work.  I'm not really into it; Spyhunter and that's a different story.

Anyway - I am digging the new Surge - a LOT.  Matt's right - the edges have been slightly rounded off, which is not a bad thing.  LM has done just all right.
...nothing in his pockets but knives and lint...

I got mine a while ago.  so far it's working like a champ.  the only thing I've noticed is the pocket clip is loose in this one just like the old one was.  That being said it's never come out on be so I shouldn't complain.

defiantly worth the money guys,  this might be the best Leatherman yet!! :multi:

I'm in. The wait was worth it. This thing needs some abuse just to get loosened up! I need to swap one of the flat-heads for a small bit driver and I'll be golden!
