Isn't the 3rd wire cutter between the handles more appropriate for a keyring?

I believe its a "stranded wire cutter". And the ring was too small to fit there anyway. And it's a bloody Surge, it should handle a piece of wire.

Yes, before the new surge came out some people have been swapping pliers with ST300. Search for "Surge 300".

Still it was cheaper for me to get it from REI + 40 dollars shipping + customs charges (total about 110 pounds - that's almost 200 dollars folks...).
