Find me a clip solution for my pen light
on: December 02, 2013, 08:06:28 PM

I own a couple of these penlights:

  http://www.amazon.com/Rayovac-BRSLEDPEN-B-Brilliant-Solutions-Colors/dp/B000VK6ZGM/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1386010733&sr=1-1&keywords=rayovac+penlight.

The problem is that the pocket clip broke off of both the ones that I have. I like to keep it clipped to my pants pocket and not have it roll around in my pocket. Any recommendations on a pocket clip or how to make one?

I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

This isn't to sound mean or anything, but you're actually wanting a solution to fixing a $3 flashlight?

I think 'buy a better flashlight' might be the first and most obvious solution. One that doesn't have a plastic pocket clip.

There are a number of mechanical pencils and such that have metal clips which attach to the pencil with a sort of ring, but the circumference would be too small to clip onto that penlight, I think.

If it doesn't sound too cheesy, maybe a paperclip rubber-banded to the penlight body?

Call it my cheap side coming out but i'd like to see if I can fix the solution before going to another flashlight. This has been a good flashlight for me minus the clip issue. I will take a look around for a mechanical pencil to see if I could steal the clip off of it.

take it apart, drill 2 holes and run some paracord through it.  not a clip, but a lanyard.

I would just buy some more and put the ones with broken clips into the kitchen draws, toolbox, etc
If I can help, let me know

I tried attaching a paper clip to the light with a rubber band and it didn't turn out too well. I tried a clip from another light last night with a clamp and it didn't do anything either. I am probably going to look around for another pen light then.

Detron---> You make a very good point with leaving lights around. You can never have enough lights spread around.

You can use a small hose clamp and some wire. Bend the wire to make a clip then clamp it to the pen light.

Any recommendations on what wire to use? I should have plenty of clamps lying around to use..

you could use a large paper clip WITHOUT completely un-bending it.  this would ensure you had no rough edges

If it's not overkill, coathanger is a great, stiff wire.

Coat hanger will work good. Heavy copper will work too.
Double it on itself then clamp it on.

I found a solution for the clip. I took the metal clip from another light I had and transplanted it. My wife put a layer of electrical tape over the pen and the clip slid right on and has stayed on.
