Wenger Repair Machine?
on: December 09, 2013, 08:08:46 AM
I know the Vic has a repair machine that certain Vic representatives have use of.  Does Wenger also have such a machine floating around among its agents?

Well if one were available of course it would be most interesting.  But I actually have something else in mind and it seems this would be the ideal time to implement it.

Cheers

Unless, you were able to stumble upon someone totally naive and didn't know what was happening with wenger, then I'm guessing most folks who will get their mitts on wenger memorabilia will want big bucks for it.

But, nothings impossible - I certainly wish you well on your quest.
I and many many more will be green with envy if you score.

Seems like a jig similar to Vic's wouldn't be too hard to make for someone with access to the materials and shop tools. It's basically a clamp at the bottom, a tamper at the top and a lever arm to set and tension the springs. If it were me, I'd probably make it hand operated rather than hydraulic like theirs.

I've seen the videos of the Vic one in use and how they set the springs for 91mm knives; I've often wondered how they do it for the 58mm ones on the jig.

I agree with you. I'm pretty certain a similar jig could be cobbled together. When all is said its only a press.

well, the idea was to get the local Wenger distro to make a run of Wenger voyageurs on the downlow, but it is not to be. I did ask them to make a inquiry if hq could do it.

blade plus combo tool
mag glass with flat head
scissors
awl
cork screw or Phillips
black classic scales for low profile

would be groovy.

mto could have been a bit more adventuresome with it's special order imo.

I may tackle the idea one day when I can get a place with some workshop space. So far, my $1 plastic cutting board has served me well.

Keep in mind the riveting tool the factory uses is nothing like the one the little shops use for the DIY spartan assembly.  You need a rotating hammering device to form a rivet head.  Aircraft riveting tools are the place to start if you want to build one.  Custom make some setters and anvils and build it into a press and thats how to make it work.

This tool.
