[WITHDRAWN] I got it, I got it, ... What is it?
on: December 11, 2013, 12:23:44 AM
Here we go again.  A couple of weeks ago I bought a bunch of knives at an auction.

I bought a Victorinox Classic with a goldish chip on it.  After a couple of hours of research I discovered  Victorinox once made a Classic named "Gold Chip" that contained a genuine GOLD -AU- chip.  How can I tell if the Victorinox Classic I bought is a legitimate "Gold Chip"?
The chip is engraved "MCDONNELL DOUGLAS".  I attached a picture on  Victorinox Classic in question. ???

I asked this board to identify a knife before and got many good answers.

Any response is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

The gold one has a bullion bar in it. I think that is a Logo knife.

This is how the real gold one looks like. Just search for Victorinox classic ingot for more info.

That one is just an advertising knife. Sorry. :(

Thanks for the responses,  I will do some more research and make a conclusion.  Based on the responses I have received so far,  my knife does not appear to be a "Gold Chip".

The chip on your Classic is the right color, looks soft with that notch in the edge...
If you can dent it with say a sharp piece of wood - or your tooth, like an old pirate - it is gold and not brass.
This much gold (1 gram) 20 years ago was worth like $10.  Today, at $1300/oz - about $45.
