Massive changes ahead
on: January 11, 2014, 05:36:13 PM
Hi all first off I hope no-one minds me posting this with me being new here. But I thought I would share a life changing decision I'm going to have to make in the next month or so.

My parents live in tenerife and have a couple businesses, hotels and water sport rental. Now this has been brought up before but they weant me and my GF to move there. She has a little boy from her previous marriage though that's the only down side but his dad doesnt really have much to do with him. Anyway we are really serious about moving. There are plenty of opportunities for me for work and such still in the maintenance/electrical trade. So yeah just thought i would share this as although it is a big step it's something that I really want to try

If it's one thing I wish I'd done more of in my life it's travel.  I grew up in a military family and moved around a number of times when I was a kid, and perhaps that instilled a certain amount of wanderlust in me.  If you get the chance to get an opportunity somewhere else, I say go for it.

Heck, if you have a shot, take it.  If you don't have a shot, make one.  :D

I say go for it.  If for any reason it doesn't work out, you can always move back.  If you don't even try it, though, you'll always wonder how it would have been.

Go for it!  All the best in whatever you decide but it sounds like a interesting adventure.

There's an old saying that goes along the lines of:  "At the end of their life most people regret the things they didn't do more than anything else."

But do thorough homework on all aspects of your proposed new life before jumping in so you know what to expect and can be somewhat prepared.

Very sensible.  Keep in mind that you need to look at it with a different frame of mind.  Not "this is a great holiday" but rather "is this a place I'd want to live, day after day".  Schools, shopping, social life etc, all the practical stuff that is life. ;)

Well, after much thought I am making the move! My flight is next Wednesday. I was just meant to be going for a holiday with the wife but after many discussions we decided to go our separate ways. Not over the decision to move or anything, she said she isn't in love with me any more. I'm not the typew to let things get me down but have decided that best thing to do is move. Plenty of guaranteed work over there for me.

Plus my dads mate is back at the minute and is driving a van over so my possessions can go  over aswell. the main thing i need to know is though what multitools to take in my case! ha  :salute:

Sorry to hear it did not work out with your wife. As to giving the move a shot, go for it. I moved to Spain, the Costa de Sol, from Belgium on Feb 2nd 2004, with a 3 month probation work contract.  That will be 10 years ago next week! Best decision of my life.

When it is time to move on, it is time to move on.  Go for it (but keep in touch with your friends and acquaintances here ).

Good call, the north is much wetter. Tenerife is a beautiful island.

Good luck with the move mate!  I can't say I haven't toyed with the idea of moving somewhere else to work myself, preferably somewhere warmer, but I don't have the cojones to make that kind of massive change.  Well done for making a tough decision.   :salute:  Don't forget to send us all a postcard.   :)

Just saw this, good luck, moving on is always a good thing. I think its really good that you didnt have to carry a girl with you, that way you can really start over and everything you will build over there will be yours. Then you can decide if and who to share it with  :tu:
