I'm gonna do it this time.
on: May 21, 2008, 10:48:46 PM
All the times before I TRIED to quit smoking. This time I AM going to quit smoking. I sometimes feel I am hopelessly addicted to these things. Even after getting cancer I continued to smoke. I knew I should have quit but I didn't. I'd quit "later". Well, I've decided that "later" has arrived. It's time for me to man up and quit this crap. I'm going to use the nicotine gum.

Updates as I go along.

Also look into Zyban. However your ins wont cover it and it gets very expensive to buy. however here is a tip. Wellbutrin. It is covered by ins. and you will find your Md. will write the script up for you. Have him start at .75 Mg. and then after 1 week up to 150 mg. You should not have any problems.

Good luck we are routing for you.

I've tried the welbutrin route, didn't work. I've also tried patches too.

Well you really still got to quit. We want you to stay around here awhile.

Besides we still want to know what tool you used to remove the staples?

Good luck this time.  Hope this succeeds. I don't want to give you any tough love, "Foamy the Squirrel" style ::)

My Mom smoked a pack a day up until she was forty. Then, one day she decided to stop smoking. Everyday she cut down one cigarette.. Eventually, she was down to zero. She hasn't smoked a puff since!

I've heard nothing but bad things about Wellbutrin/Zyban from people who have taken them. Most complained about the side effects which come with taking an anti-depressant.

In the other pharmaceuticals I've known a few people who took Chantix and were very pleased with the results. One was a 1.5 pack/day smoker and dipper for 22 years and the other was a 2 pack/day smoker for 14 years. Both had no problems with the drug but apparently it isn't really any better than the other medical options.

Link

Personally I would stick with the Nicotine gums or the Commit losange since they show much less side effects and those side effects aren't as severe as pharmaceuticals.

Keep at it though the longer you go the better you'll be. Good luck!

I also smoke before. I just throw my last pack and abruptly stop smoking. That was 15 years ago. I think what is needed is only the will power to stop.

Well I didn't have any more yesterday. I got up this morning and pretty much yelled at my son for an hour straight. So I came to my senses. I took a couple of drags and calmed down. I am still going to do this but I'm not gonna make my boy have to live with me being a jerk.

Most smokers who quit smoking usually gain weight after just a few weeks. I also experienced that. Watch your diet DTH.

It's not going good. My big weakness is when I take my pain pills. For some reason they make me smoke like a chimney. The damn things mess up my appetite too so I'm gonna cut down on them and see how that goes. That should make it go better.

How about if you cut back on one everyday.. Or, if you think that's too much then cut it to one a week. Then you will see that your smoking less. Then, you can probably stop!

I've heard that smoking modification works for cutting down. That is, light the cigarette, take 1-2 drags max and then put it out. It made dropping the habit easier for me the first few times I quit but I always went back due to stress or boredom. Slowly working on it for 7th time.  :-X

Another reason I think my Mom quit is because she couldn't find her favorite cigarettes anymore! She used to like Silver Thins and they stopped making them!

I think I'm gonna try this route. Gradually cut back. I was a complete butthole by the time my wife came home yesterday. She said if I didn't have a cigarette and calm down I wouldn't have to worry about cancer killin me because she'd do it long before that happened.

Mate my Dad tried about 6 or 8 times to stop and he was like a bear with sore balls each time he stopped until our family Doctor warned him he would have an oxygen tank in the house within 6 months that helped his motivation

Seriously, best of luck to you guys.  It ain't easy, but it can be done.  I've got faith in you!  Think about how much money you are spending on ashes, and how many cool things you can use the money on when you are done with it!
