External plugs (we use stringy ones a lot) are very handy and do a good job *but* they do rely on the strength of the surrounding tyre. They're also illegal to use on the road over here.

huh, thats interesting, sounds like a lot of work just to fix a puncture - whats a garage / tyre fitter charge to fix a puncture there so (ballpark) - last time i got one fixed i'm pretty sure it was the stringy stuff they used, though i didn't hang about to see. i must find out whether thats legal here or not. thanks for the info
