Reading all of these posts it seems to me that Gerber responded to your concerns quickly. Sounds like to me they went above and beyond to satisfy your frustration  for your failed FLIK. I wish I could get service like that from some other companies.

I like the Pro Scout and the 800 Legend the best..
I am the proud owner of an 800 and I have to say that I have the utmost confidence in it and have used it operationally for housebreaking, removing various panels during a search and repairs to my locker after forcing entry

+1 on Service Dept.I broke a few of the Original MultiPliers before moving on to Leatherman's offerings,as I was striving to reach a transcendental state of "MultiToolness"  :angel:which I am proud to say I reached with the purchase of my Swisstool.(Sorry I cant help not getting in a Swisstool Prop here) :D

I never had a problem with Gerber when I would send in the damaged unit. For awhile it was a running joke in the warehouse I worked in on how long the latest one would last.My record was two hours after I opened up the replacement. In all fairness to Gerber I will freely admit that I had a "Mongo" >:D mentality with the Gerbers.

Seems like Gerber has some pretty neat ideas, but maybe the rush just a bit to much.

I always have thought that the rotating cutting edges in the pliers was a pretty good idea.I know I have been guity a time or two for attempting to cut something a bit beyond the pliers ability.Bieng able to replace the cutting edge is a pretty good solution.I am suprised that none of the other Multi-Tool makers have picked up on that one.

Hello, I'm new here.

Finally a multitool forum!!!! 8)
One question, how big/long are the screwdrivers on the flik compared to the mp400 compact sport tools.
Are they the same size?Cause if they are smaller i'm probably going to get me a leatherman charge TTi instead.
I need a good mlultitool when I go to the Police Academy :police:( here in Belgium)...

greets to all

I am a serving officer in a busy city office and the tools I use most are the knife blade ,scissors and a couple of screw drivers when searching .Be wary of routine belt carry particularly with OH knife blades as they can be snatched and used against you all to quickly internal tools take that bit longer which can be an advantage

Hi guys. Noob here.

I was playing with my just-out-of-the-blister-pack Gerber Flik, and while I love the locking tools and the fast opening pliers, I absolutely hate the two button mechanism used to retract the pliers. For anyone thinking of buying the Flik, you must GENTLY depress and slide both buttons to retract the pliers. If you're not gentle, the mechanism jams and you need to jiggle the buttons so the pliers fully open again and then try again. Or if you're stupid like me :twak: if the jam occurs and you force the pliers head into the tool, you'll end up seriously jamming it. Luckily a long screwdriver and some carefully applied muscle will push the pliers back into their open position and you can use the buttons again.

It's a shame that this nifty tool design such has a glaring weak point, but now that I know about it and how to work around it (and how to fix it :D), it's a good tool for a klutz like me.

Again, go ninja when opening the Flik pliers, but baby the tool when retracting them.

This seemed like the best palce to post this.
I was looking for a gerber I thought was the nice, i tracked it down and opened it up the blade was all overed in burrs and the edges where sharp, it felt like crap.  they seem to have some cool ideas but...
I know gerbers are china made but is the overall feeling they are crap? whats with the burrs?? do they actually last?
I loved my Leatherman Blast but it has been out for warrenty for too long (Thinking they stole it) and Its got a lot of useless features but I was much Happerier with my leatherman than even seeing the gerbers.

Leatherman has a 25 year warranty, and the Blasts haven't been out for 25 years- therefore it's not out of it's warranty period.

Burrs are really nothing too serious, and Gerber does make some good stuff.  The Flik, Diesel, Freehand and Multiplier series are all excellent tools that stand up to lots of punishment.

I am a machinist and I know how to de-bur but it just seemed to lack that craftmanship
I do like that on hand design so I am sure I will be getting one but I am glad to hear thay can take the work.
I really wanted that gerber freehand, if I do find on e I am sure I will be grabbing it.

Blast is great i loved its light weight, I know it will be back from warrenty BUT... I just miss it!!

Thanks

buy and wenger (RIP  swissgrip :S) or victorinox multitool , these two brands are the only multitools i have encountered without serious issues...  ,
p.s one can always find my bashing of the vic tools, ive tested and used all the others, so when you see how many bad things i can say about a good multitool like the vic,.. you can imagine about how bad the reviews for the others are..

swiss tool is made in europe, but the brand name producer, all hardening is consistant.. quality is controled on a very sophisticated level and production is in vast volume..
for the price, they are not much different in price than the gerber.. alas they dont have a one hand open knife.. but they are without serious defect..
